Perfect. Thanks @wild edges I'll make a note. Do you put leaves for the caterpillars from the plant you found them on? And you need to keep adding fresh? (I've not looked after crawlers before).  And keep crysalis in the dark?

Well the one that just hatched was on a sedum so I just put the whole stems in there with them. Being succulents they were all that was needed for them. The angle shades has been getting mixed fresh greens but it's fairly happy to eat most things. I keep them under the bench in the shady part of the greenhouse but haven't worried about keeping them too dark. I guess you need to find out if they need to pupate in soil or if they're ok wrapped in leaves though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I found one of those cocoons today as well. In a plant pot that I was emptying for replanting.

I put it in a small pot and left it in a shady spot - hopefully it will survive and progress to the adult stage.

  • Hi all, my two-month-old micro pond seems to be bursting with life. We've discovered these tiny creatures in it, could anyone confirm what they are? Our guess is tadpoles, but they are so so very small. We are beginner micro ponders, so everything we see is a mystery 🤣

Hahahahaha! Thank you @Fire Life is always just a bit less poetic than I had hoped! But I suppose they will provide plenty of food for our other visitors.

So long as you don't provide food for them!
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Another little hatchling today. It's amazing to see them chew their way out of their sleeping bags and be off flying seconds later. Bees really are as busy as they say. Excuse the photo, I only had my phone on me.

    How beautiful.

All my harvested cocoons from last year have now hatched safely. Hatch-poo-eat.
