Local authorities have strict legal responsibilities to care leavers ... without wishing to pry, are you a recent Care Leaver? Your Pathway Plan should go up to the age of 21 or to 25 if you are in education or training.

Cheyngel ... that's not a lot of help is it? I'm sorry it's been difficult for you.
Sadly nowadays Housing Officers and their teams struggle under horrendous workloads and very often just don't have the time to do their job as well as they would want to.
Please don't feel that that it's aimed against you because of your circumstances. .. most local authority workers are kind decent people who want to help but in recent years it's been like wading through treacle with both legs tied together ...

Before my retirement I worked in a social work team ... I know the sort of pressures that can arise ... I hope you felt supported through what must have been a difficult time and I'm so glad you're in a lovely place now

Just reading your issues with daughter NBeach. Is there any way your daughter could arrange a contract directly with the landlord and to hell with the middle man (letting agent) ? Surely that would be a more satisfactory arrangement for all? I've also been on both sides of the rental market, and know how difficult it can be when people don't play ball, or play fair.
Hosta - it does sound like the previous tenants have been sneaky and done the dirty on you. What the **** is wrong with people these days? I dare say Obelixx is right about holiday lets, but it would doubtless be more work for you both with changeovers
I'd ask the council why it would be an issue having a change to permanent tenants, instead of holiday lets too.
There seems to be a lack of 'joined up thinking' with councils about so many issues. Why does that not surprise me in the slightest.....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Golly, Dove thats some family history! Are they very pale skinned? My late father had skin cancer dont know what type, he wouldnt tell me, I only knew because he was putting something on the areas when I went to stay and help him when his second wife died. I am the blue eyed blond after him. My grandson(who has white blond hair) was born with a huge rare mole, which must never see sun light, and obviously, unfortunately, he has skin cancer on both sides of our family. Oddly enough both grandkids have asthma and eczema and aparently having eczema helps protect you from skin cancer because the cells change so quickly.
The ( very helpful, understanding, and sympathetic ) chap I spoke to was an enforcement officer and had little knowledge of "planning" suffice to say, they'd consider a change to the conditions if I submit another planning application ( over £300 ) Well of course they'd like £300 of our money. No skin off their noses if they turn round at the end and say "no".
We're thinking of holiday let again, but just at peak times when the money is good. (no need to worry about tenants leaving the heating on all winter then. He says, trying to positive )
Being the nice person I am, I'm thinking perhaps the tenants had to give a current address before moving and that's how the council got wind? I really don't want to know who " dobbed us in" . It would achieve nothing and just create ill feeling which wouldn't help in any way.
The problem with changing to permanent tenants rather than holiday lets is that they can only permit what was granted at the Planning Application.
If a change is wanted there has to be another planning application and all that entails.
Afraid it has to be that way, otherwise people with planning permission for a small garage could build a large detached house and then say, 'Can't we change it?' ... people living in the neighbourhood might not be very pleased. My ex used to be on a Planning Committee for a local council.
As for holiday lets, rent a different cottage in the west country most years; most of the ones I know use an agency to organise the bookings etc and experienced holiday let cleaners to deal with the change-over on Fridays or Saturdays. We hardly ever see anything of the owners unless they choose to come and say hello.
