Greetings from poll-free Finland. We had postal votes - and will quietly check the results on line when we feel strong enough to cope. There was something about the election on the Finnish news this morning, but... well, it was in Finnish. Nuff said.
It's wet here at the moment, and I've chickened out of the last event of the day cos I need to go to bed - it's all go at these festivals! We're hoping it might brighten up soon. Yesterday was lovely, warm and sunny, though it's been a long winter; they've had regular frosts until a few nights ago, and leaves are still opening on some of the trees. Summer is short, but usually hot once it gets going. Hope that includes at least part of our time here...
It's 10pm and I'm flagging, although it's still light - not got used to the 2 hour time difference yet (I'm such a lightweight...) Night all.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
It seems that only those in paid employment pay. I have done nearly as much training hours this year as I have working. All to give out basics like 24 Paracetamol or a bottle of Ibuprofen mixture for kids. The minor ailment scheme means people who do not pay for prescriptions, come to see Pharmacist instead of Doctor for stuff they could just buy. I would be eligible. (over 60 free prescriptions). I find this horrendous. The cost to the NHS via the taxpayer is enormous. £4 per item plus cost of medication. (60p for 24 Paracetamol) Whatever happened to people looking after themselves, instead of expecting a magic pill for every ill, all at the NHS expense? It results in people coming in with shopping lists to stock up the cupboard. When I refuse to supply medication on the off chance they may need it at some future point, I get abuse. I am retiring this year.
We have free prescriptions for all in Wales. Without getting too political (as it's before 10pm!) can the NHS really afford that??
I had a lovely day being an Aunty today - trip to the Museum to see the natural history displays and then to the theatre to see a children's story. We had cherries for tea (an excellent healthy pudding choice from AuntyRach there) but have now realised that they should be eaten outside with full protective clothing on (table cloth soaking in stain remover as we speak)!
Walked to polling station in the rain - hope the poor weather didn't put people off...
You tell me. I heard the NHS in Wales is in a state. I think everyone could contribute £1 per item for a months worth. It would stop a huge amount of waste at a stroke. Foreign nationals on holiday turn up..produce the credit card machine. They do it to us. There needs to be a hard line drawn on this. Come here on holiday, get Medical Insurance, produce credit card, reclaim it from your insurance.
I've had free prescriptions for around 15 years because of my thyroid condition, but I've always gone to the pharmacy and bought any non prescription painkillers I've needed. Even with this danged foot the hospital asked if I needed painkillers and I said I was coping with paracetamol or Solpadeine They said if I needed more to ring my GP. I suppose some people would have accepted prescription meds just in case
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Another big decision though... what channel to watch the election results on...
Clarington - sorry to hear the hospice day did not attract visitors - I find that bizarre, as our local hospices are a very popular choice for fundraising and public support.
Goodnight all - and if you are staying up or waking early for the results - hope it's worth it!

Well it's that time. All we can do now is put the kettle on.
Anyone for tea?
Well, it's all over, for me anyway.
Drove people to the polls, thought half these people will not even be voting for my lot.
Asked whether I wanted to go to the count, said no I shall watch it as I drift in and out of sleep during the night.

I am like you Dove and had free scripts since I was 33. I always buy what I can and try to pop something in the box. Helps my conscience
Clari could you pop a little something in my cuppa please. Looks like it may be a long night!

I think I might need something stronger than Tea.
