Raisin: Must be rougher than I had realised around there. Money is such a subjective thing. Comparing one to another never really works when it's kept in to separate pockets.
Lots of heavy reading today but I think I've gotten us into the lift craft and away from the river of poo. Isn't it funny how a single word can have do much power if you know what you're looking at.
Mind you I'm not sure my boss understood of the engineer speak!
Fidget has solved a mystery for me on the Kew Visit thread! So I had to tell you. In June there is a lovely scent around my kitchen terrace. I've been around sniffing the Jasmine, the roses and the honeysuckle but it's not them. Just realised it must be the lime tree! Too high up to sniff.
Absolutely tipping at Daughter 2's near Libourne.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Pdoc - I can see your point but it's a daft comparison given that local councils and housing authorities don't have a budget for military hardware. There are far too may tower blocks with the same problem in areas run by councils across the political spectrum. 137 blocks failed in 41 areas and more to be tested and then, presumably, they'll start on schools and hospitals........
We have been out for BIL's birthday lunch - lots of rain at La Tranche-sur-Mer and a few hardy souls in wet suits windsurfing, presumably practising for this coming week's festival. However, before we went I did manage to get out and plant 43 sweetcorn babies (teenagers) and my squashes and courgettes ready to be rained in tho I did get the hosepipes out to soak them in. Thought I'd plant the cabbages and maybe the toms this pm but blow me if we're not having showers again. Very nice indeed but I've had to change into jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt.
Might put a jacket on and plant anyway as we're off out tomorrow and again on Sunday and on Monday I may abandon them all and drive up to Belgium for a funeral on Tuesday. One of my first friends made in Belgium has lost her husband to a brain tumour. Their youngest daughter is Possum's godmum.
Clari - H&S big topic right now. Go for it.
DD - carry on but do make sure you get some sleep or you'll burn out before you've started. Did you get the recipes OK?
Dove - Having spent months on a sofa with sequential feet ops I know the frustration but it is possible if you arm yourself with DVD's, recordings, knitting, embroidery and a well charged Kindle.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I do get some funny looks when I keep sniffing at things. I think I likened the lime trees to some bath oil my sister got long ago. As she pinched my badedas, I pinched her lime bath oil.
I have been cured of my sniffles hooray! Actually I realised that the raw honey, which I'd found on Amazon very recently, contained pollen and I'd been sniffly and sneezy ever since. Stopped the honey for two days and the sniffles stopped. Just cooked some tea: fish with bread crumbs, new potatoes with butter and green beans; with a Longley Farm blueberry yogurt for pudding. . I think I will put my pyjamas on after Emmerdale and look for a film later. Hope you all have a relaxing evening.
I think countries have to be able to defend themselves so a military budget is necessary, just the same as domestic and public money should be used wisely. The question for me is more one of efficient spending, informed decisions and egalitarianism across the spectrum from countryside to inner cities. I would invest more in education - better teachers, better facilities in which to teach and learn, higher expectations for everyone whether academic or more practically or technically inclined - starting with nursery care thru to colleges and university.
I would also change the NHS to remove the postcode lottery about who gets what treatment for which conditions and how fast they get it and I would join it up with social care provision. Seems to me that people working in the NHS also deserve better working conditions and facilities and better pay for the coalface staff such as nurses and paramedics.
Problem for me is too much short termism and not enough joined up thinking.
Same in gardening. We all know that if we prepare a bed well and grow our plants in good conditions they will thrive and do well with little after care but if we skimp on soil prep and weed clearance or give the wrong conditions we'll be forever hoeing and weeding and propping up and treating for pests and diseases - waste of time and money.

Lime tree scent always reminds of Hampton Court flower show. You often find "drunk" bees on the ground underneath who've really just been too greedy.

It was not meant as a genuine comparison, rather a, it makes you think, doesn't it sort of thing?
I would say that there is a genuine point about, how, as a society, we spend our taxes, but maybe I should leave that.
Miserable day here, both weather wise and under the weather wise, am just wondering when I can reasonably go back to bed.
OH will pick up a curry, when she is able to leave work
