He said that this morning he had to negotiate with a fierce mother rook defending a fledgling which had landed in the narrow alleyway between the shop and the cold store ......... he said she was pretty insistent that he was not going anywhere near her offspring ... however he eventually chased the adult off, got hold of the fledgling and put it around the corner behind the shop under the big copper beech from whence it probably came ... he said he gave it some nice ham offcuts in case it's parents took time to find it
Now he tells me he's making us Crab linguine for supper!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
A few days ago I told you that I was hacking away at an eleagnus and found a nest with 3 eggs in it. I beat a hasty retreat and have kept well away.
Today I risked sneaky look and was rewarded by the sight of Mrs Blackbird glaring back telling me to clear off and leave her alone because she had a job on incubating said eggs.
Phew! - I nearly wrecked the nest with enthusiastic gardening but it seems no lasting damage has been done.
Looking forward to seeing the babies
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Chicky I am a fan of Monty he is an excellent gardener and seems like a genuinely lovely man but he lives in rather an ideal world or appears to, supermarket shopping is how we shop now or online of course and he maybe should think twice before he speaks sometimes because he risks alienating his audience, to me anything which gets people out in their garden getting their hands dirty in the fresh air and growing stuff is a good thing and let's not be too precious about it.
Punkdoc, maybe you should visit Australia next time. I wouldn't recommend winter though.
Liri, sorry I got confused about your trip to Finland. It's about par for the course with me nowadays. I must remember to read things more carefully.
Weve got fog this morning, but I'm bravely washing clothes in the hope it'll be a brilliant day when it lifts. I don't fancy hanging it out until then though. Brrr.

OH is home now until Thursday

Dove, you will be looked after for a few days
Not that your OH has been neglectful....just the opposite.
Obelixx.....oh dear, your OH wont be a very happy bunny. So frustrating when something leads to doing even more work.

Happy ending Tbird
Did my plant shopping, but didn't quite have enough energy to plant them all .....a job for tomorrow.
Spent the afternoon in my hammock instead
Chicky, as a hard working, commuting girl, you deserve an afternoon in your hammock

Hi all.
Managed to grab a few minutes on OH's laptop.
Desk Top now at computer shop, hope it is fixable.
Watched our grey wagtails going in and out of the nest all day, hopefully fledged wagtails will appear at some point.
I love Monty too.
Sadly Japanese holiday is now officially cancelled and I have lost the deposit. Looks like I shall be planning another trip, where shall we go?

Yikes, just turned the TV on and now terror attacks in London!
It looks bad. I hope you all are ok.
