I fear there are people trapped who cannot get out. The pumps can only reach about half way. I wouldn't live in a tower block for all the tea in China.
I haven't seen the news yet. Sounds horrendous from what you say.
Cloudy, showery, gusts of wind, more storms forecast. I'm very stiff from a day on my knees yesterday, think I'll make up beds instead as daughter 1 with 3 sons are coming for the weekend. They want to see son 2's new baby and new house. We are going to see the new house this afternoon.
Pat, no way are you going to see a photo of my 27yr old muddy, calloused knees! If you want to see the garden the photos are on the Gallery thread.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
terrible fire. It looks like the cladding insulation was burning in some of the night pictures. I can't listen to the news - the stories....... It should not have been possible. Something has gone terribly wrong

No, there's no prohibition on gas in towers. It's supposed to be 4 hour fire enclosed and vented to outside to prevent explosions, which is I think the change made after that incident. Building Regulations especially for fire is essentially a catalogue of things that have gone wrong (or sometimes right - I was once told where the 45m maximum escape route distance came from. Frankly I'm still not sure I believe that one).
There are mutterings about faulty fridges at the moment. But the main point is there should be fire separation between flats of at least 1 hour. This one spread though the entire building in less than that. It should not be possible. Even if someone deliberately set the fire in a stairway to cause maximum damage, it should not have spread into the flats as it clearly has.

A chap was interviewed earlier who had run out of the fire in a dressing gown and boxers. He had been given flip flops and track suit bottoms by folk who had just turned up with "stuff". People are going round with drinks and sandwiches. They're organising clothes, food, medications for people left with nothing but their night clothes.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Angels come.

Oh the photo of the burning Grenfell building looks awful.

More tears for London.
Morning all. I'll be in meetings all day today so will be relying on many many mugs of tea.
It sounds like the fire alarms didn't go off in the block of flats. I just hope it remains upright.
Morning,
Hideous pictures, (I have turned them off) fire absolutely terrifies me. London weeps again

When will it end ?
When you don't even know who's in the team

"They'd" been installing gas into the building ......... I thought that gas had been forbidden in tower blocks since the Ronan Point explosion
