LP, sat out long enough to have two coffees but there was a bit of a chill in the air.

Hello all, don't think I've posted for a couple of days. Our friends have gone. On Thursday we went to Blickling Hall, gorgeous. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/blickling-estate  On the way home TomTom led us down a narrow lane. An old lady was driving towards us in the middle of the lane and I went up the verge as much as I could and OH shouted at her to stop, which she did. But then she decided to carry on and scraped paint off the rear wing of my brand new red car image She headed for the car behind us with a young couple in it, but the man leapt out and stood in front of it so old lady stopped. The couple lived nearby and said she wasn't fit to drive so the young woman called the police. Then a chap from the National Trust turned up and said the old lady had been driving around the car park at the Hall and narrowly missed other cars and nearly knocked him over and they had reported her. Then a jolly farmer turned up and said he knew her and locals thought she wasn't safe. A lovely lady policeman arrived, took down all the details and took photos of the cars, then we all went home. I have ordered some red paint from the Renault garage in France, the scratch isn't too bad, not dented. Old woman's car was worse.

Today I have been planting up the slope behind the wall with rockery plants. Ran out so we went to 2 GCs and bought some more and had a drink in a pub on the way home. I'd wanted some bark to put on the bank, but English bark is shredded, not at all like French bark which is in pieces like slate chips. I fear it will all blow away in the wind, or slide down the bank, so I didn't get any.

here's  one for you birdy types.

We saw a bird to day, nearest I could find in my book was willow warbler, but it wasn't as rounded as the photos I've seen, nor did it seems as big as the description suggested.

Very distinctive yellow flash on the head, but  petite, slim in shape.

I know it's not a lot to go on, but any ideas?

BL, don't get me started on geriatric drivers. My nerves couldn't take it.

Oh dear BL image ........ but East Anglia is the home of Boudicca you know ... it's a good job she didn't have spears sticking out of her hubcaps .image

There are several grades of bark - there should be one which is in bigger pieces but it does change from brand to brand.

I think it's called "play bark" in my local GC.

Hard luck with the old lady, BL.  Hope the family take her car keys away...

    Juvenile willow warbler, Hosta??

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

The policewoman asked about her family but she wouldn't say. Not fierce, like Boudicca (I prefer Boadicea), just not good at judging distances and a little confused. I felt rather sorry for her, but cross about my car too.

Thanks about bark. I'll have another look.

Hi all. Aunty-duties today so we are tip-toeing about this evening as not to wake the toddler! Probably have an early night as I am expecting her to be up soon after the sun rise which, alarmingly, is 05:33 tomorrow!

Hosta: could it be a Goldcrest??

My garden and I live in South Wales.

Hosta - have a google at Cirl Bunting - rare but where you are is the best place to see them!

Or maybe it's cousin, the yellowhammer

BL - sorry to hear about the car. An experience like that is annoying but it's also very worrying that people like that are still driving on busy, fast roads.

Thetford GC has sacks of play bark - large pine nuggets - purple bags - near the water features - £9.99 a bag - not to be confused with the shredded bark mulch next to it! image
