    Happy March greetings everyone!  image

We have April weather this morning, sun & showers, but I have to wait in for the DPD delivery man so any pruning will be done this afternoon.  Obelixx - yes, most people wanting to talk to me when I'm pruning are lovely.  I have had the odd negative comment though (probably from folk who see fruit and veg as works of the devil), together with ridicule from groups of teenagers, generally to do with what I look like in old clothes and covered in mud.

It's a shame that the irresponsible few (wild campers who leave mountains of rubbish), spoil things for those who wouldn't dream of leaving so much as a sweet wrapper anywhere other than a bin.  We get fly tipping on the moors here.  What's wrong with folk??  Why is it easier to drive 2 miles to the moor to dump their old mattress, than 2 miles to the tip?

I don't think I've ever eaten a Welsh cake.  Perhaps I should find a recipe... I must admit to a weakness for Eccles cakes though (the proper sort, made in Lancashire and using butter not marge).  image

Oh all this talk of cakes is making my sugar craving almost impossible to resist.  My thoughts have now turned to mini eggs and I am fighting the urge to get in the car and drive to Tesco Express (other supermarkets are available).  The only thing stopping me is the fact that I have to wait in for a delivery of 2 Rhododendrons.

Weightwatchers is not going well this week, suspect the scales will not be my friend on Sunday. 3 stone gone but want to lose at least one more before Secondborn's wedding.

Have been busy in the garden this morning planting pansies and two new roses.  It feel really spring like out there, if you don't mind the cold.

We have rain and strong winds with stronger gusts up to 70kph.  Nothing extreme but definitely not lamb like.  Dogs and kittens confined to barracks and going stir crazy but don't want to go and get wet either.

I pottered upstairs all morning then came down to see about lunch.   Chappies doing the insulation, ceiling and new downlights in the pantry and annex have made huge progress but have also managed to stop the door form the kitchen to the pantry and annex from opening.   Doh!  It will need to be re-hung to open into the kitchen or trimmed to open into the pantry but they now can't get it off its hinges without unscrewing them from the wall.   Clever.   Ceiling looks good tho.

Assuming they sort it this pm I can then get all the pantry stuff out of the dining room and then move the kitchen stuff into the dining room for dismantling, prepping an painting.  March is going to be a messy month.

Love proper Eccles cakes and drop scones.  Not so keen on pancakes.  Never had a Welsh cake but they look good.   OH grew up in Worcester and never had a drop scone till I made some on spec when he was in his 40s and feeling peckish between lunch and dinner.   How does that happen?    Possum loved them so much they became standard after school snack when she had little Belgians round to play.  They all went home with the recipe for maman please.

Saw the item on wild camping and found it very sad seeing the damage to trees and all that litter.  I can understand people wanting to go and enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery but why desecrate and ruin the place for others, not to mention the wildlife.   Same kind of disrespect that gets Liri mocked.  Mindless.

Lirodendron, Mother and then my wife made Chorley Cakes we loved them Eccles are lovely but could not eat more than one at a time, Welsh cakes are best eaten warm with a pat of butter on them. When we made pies any pastry left over would be rolled out quickly buttered sugar scattered on it then mixed dried fruit on that folded over and sealed then baked in the oven. Sliced up and eaten cold or warm with custard it was a firm favourite up here in the NE. I believe most parts of the UK have a favourite made up recipe for Filling holes in a lad or lasses tummy.

Love Chorley cakes too.  Anything made from left over mix like that was called a sad cake.  Yummy.

Looking forward to having a proper cooker again.  Carpenters are back form lunch and I've explained our wee technical hitch with the door.   Much scratching of heads.   Quite funny really.

Yvie, 3 stone is fantastic. I lost 4 last year, but have put on about 8- 10 lbs over the winter, but I'm sure I'll get below where I was last year by summer time. It's winter, nature wants us to store reserves. More daylight should help redress the balance.

Bee Man has been. He's been "farming" them for over 24 years and was very happy with our site. He'll bring about 6 hives over in about 6 weeks. They've had a great response to their ad and have lots of new sites for the bees.

Great stuff Hosta.   You two Yvie.  I missed your post.  3 stone is amazing.  Post a pic of your before and now on the fridge to help quell naughty urges.

Chief chappy has been.  They're going to cut off the top of the door and lower the lintel.   Fine by me and OH.

I'm off to ponder paint and curtain fabrics and think about shrubs and clematis and potagers.
