Help Save the Hedgehogs Part II

  • That was one lucky youngster Logan4. There must be a way of creating and little underpass when roads are built for not just the Hedgehogs but all small animals. It's good news that he was OK after a long drink, he most likely was confused due to being dehydrated. Good for you in doing something to help him others would have not bothered and he would most likely have been killed.

Where we are nearly every day you see two or more animals laying on the side of the road dead, not just Hedgehogs but Foxes, Badgers, Deer, Birds and sadly Hedgehogs along with Cats and Dogs.

You have just given me an idea where I can place our third Hog House as putting it in the back garden was going to be a problem. I can put a few plants in the front garden that will grow to cover over it.

At least 2 different visitors last night, I would say.... The second one was much darker than the first.

  • They look really healthy AnniD. I got some really close up photos last night but it was all of their backs lol. I sat with the patio window open and stayed very quiet I could here her in the shrubbery on here way to the patio. You can see I was just inside the patio doors

    Here she comes.

    Lovely photos @NannaBoo and @AnniD. 😁
Don't know what mine was up to last night but just before going to bed the food dish had been moved around and half the food emptied on the path. This morning the path was cleared of food, but some was still left in the dish.🤔

  • purplerallim, could it have been a youngster unable to get to the food so tipped some out?

No young around here @NannaBoo 😔 but it has done it before . Mine tends to try to sit in the dish, even though it's much too big🤣 it was more the fact the food was scattered that caught my attention.
  • purplerallim they seem to like doing that so I put the food in a smaller dish so at east all can feed. Now they just sit in the water :D

Thank you  NannaBoo and yes that's a great idea.

Snuffle and shuffle - enter one hedgehog, and how happy I was to see him/her.  The hog conversation must have gone something like this:
"'Ere - I've found a decent caff up the road.  Luvley food, and water in another dish.  Come with me and see wot you think".
    And then there were two.
"Oi - we two are going every night and it's a good caff for us hogs.  Come along and see wot you think."
    And then there were three.
All adults, as far as I can tell.  And just wonderful to see them and give them the sustenance that they want.  I took a couple of pics last night (typically, one b*****ed off as soon as the camera came into focus) but I'll try again.
Whether we like it or not, in the South West there have been badger culls.  Since they (badgers) are predators of hedgehogs, it may be that these hogs are a bonus result?  I don't know for certain - but I am just thrilled to provide food for them.  Hog houses to be built soonest.
