Mary, l know most Rescues try to put the hogs back as close to where they were found as possible. As Mark says they need to have connecting gardens (a hole the size of a cd at the bottom of fence panels etc) The British Hedgehog Preservation Society has lots of info on it's website.
"Our" hedgehog(s) have started turning up much earlier, around 8pm, in fact tonight one was in the feeding station at 7.45pm. Just wondered if anyone else has noticed the same, l can't recall them turning up so early at this time of year before ?
One of ours passes by the patio doors at around 8 p.m. on it's way to the feast under the bird table - all the dropped seed and husks by the birds during the day, then he returns here around 8.30 to eat what is on the hedgehog saucer - Wild things dried food and a bowl of water.
They are building up their strength for the winter AnniD - although here the nights are still around 16 degrees, so certainly not cold yet. I do like a clean dish - saves the dilemma of what to do with the left overs doesn't it?
Ours turned up again @7.40 tonight @Guernsey Donkey2 . I think he/she had seen the weather forecast and decided on an early dinner. It's getting a bit wild out there. You are right about the leftovers !
Just wondered - our hedgehog (s) had been turning up earlier around dusk for the last week or so. We have had no visits for the last three nights. I assume this is due to the chillier nights and wondered if others had noticed the same ?
