Holiday let sounds like a plan Hosta.  Need to do some sums tho first I should think but seasonal rates can be amazing.

Busy - do the horses not have a shelter in their winter paddock?   I'm with them on strong winds and draughty bits.

Just back from the vet.  Rasta has had an irritation which has become infected after scratching so scenes of dram queen extraordinaire as the area was shaved and bathed (her pelt is like sheep's wool) and then jabs.  Antibiotics for 20 days; anti inflammatories 10 days; bathing 10 days or more if needed.....   On the other hand, she's lost the kilo of blubber she acquired from stealing kitten food until I Rasta proofed their feeding place..

Leccy man here and happily working.   Good, cos once he's done that we can start dismantling our kitchen. What fun!

Bought myself some telescopic parrot bill loppers on Saturday so I'm off out to test them on the unruly fig.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

We used it as a holiday let for 2 years. Mostly lovely people, the odd nutters who dye their hair pillar box red and get it everywhere, or use a silk throw as a dog bed.  Not going back there.

    Devon.
  • I'm back from the GC ... with more than I went for of course image  Who knew that there's such a thing as 'sticky' bird nest boxes image  Two for the price of one!!!

It would've been rude not to, wouldn't it? image

Hosta wouldn't have wanted to swap this morning. Some of our neighbours reported a frost. Crazy mixed up weather. I even turned on the electric blanket to warm our bed this evening. image

    night all.

What a lovely day out there - lots of people horse riding and out walking - combination of sunshine and half term I guessimage

P'Doc - That's a very positive thing to happen with your Mum. My parents are no longer with us but both the outlaws are. Both still fit and active but FIL is getting a bit forgetful and muddled - fortunately MIL is as sharp as a button. Both in their mid 80's.

We know that if FIL goes first MIL will make very sensible decisions and will probably take herself off to a small flat somewhere with good public transport (for when she doesn't drive) and plenty of local amenities.

We are trying very hard not to think about scenarios if FIL is left on his own...

Good luck with the flat Hosta. Be ruthless when interviewing prospective tenants!

Curious about sticky bird nest boxes Dove....

  • Good afternoon friends!

Thick mist this morning was replaced by sun, by midday, but now the mist is returning.  It's blooming cold too, with a strong easterly wind I'll be glad to see the back of.

Frost, Pat?  It's hard to keep up with your weather!  Hope it's easier to live with than the excessive heat.

Good news about your Mum, Punkdoc (as well as the ribs!) - will she move reasonably close to you?  It would make it a lot easier if she needs you in a hurry...

Clari, it's a tribute to you that you're prepared even to consider helping with the Scouts.  But it needs serious thought - it's much easier to acquire a job like that than to give it away, if it turns out not to be such a good idea, and as others have said, you've got a lot on your plate at the moment.

Hosta, would you consider getting an agent to find your next tenant?  It costs a bit, but their vetting procedures are quite rigorous, and it saves a lot of worry.

Bird boxes are definitely not a luxury, Dove.  Essential accommodation for your visitors.  image

    Clari, it's all been said?

Pink pleased to hear your pain is less I am glad it has been your mums own decision but be prepared it's a devastating time for her I think the day we took mum was one of the worst days of my life.

    Hosta good luck finding tenants

dogs enjoyed long walk today but the devils decided to swim and I have spent ages drying them off!

Hubby spoke the agency who sourced our last tenants and I'm going to see her properly on Friday morning . They take the first month's rent as a " finder fee" which is fair enough.
