Wondered why it felt so chilly this morning - it was only about 1 degree going to work, and we had the misty, foggy stuff that LP had. Been snowing on and off for  most of the morning. Not lying though - wet stuff. Still the same temp. Spring not looking forthcoming any time soon image

I realised the value of 'sums' when I witnessed the teenage daughter of a friend struggle to work out if she had enough money for some purchases, and she couldn't add up the cost of a couple of things in her head.  She was a bright girl too. They used calculators constantly in class. Quite illuminating.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Our temps today ranged from 17to 21. Had socks on and a flannelette shirt over Tshirt. Predictions for Thursday and Friday are 40 and 41. image

FG - Possum is getting to grips with those sorts of sums too and has now got an app on her phone to keep track of her expenditure.  She has quickly worked out for herself the old adage of looking after the pennies to save pounds and the importance of having a shopping list too.

We might get a thunderstorm later this pm and then it's set to be freezing and sunny for a few days.  Good job I kept my ski socks.

Today is proving fun. We've lost all power to the museum (and phone lines) due to damage caused during building work across the road. I've had to cancel tonights scout group (though I'm still waiting for the leader to get back to me the less time they have to plan an alternative evening which really does worry me) and I'm crossing all my crossable bits that they will get things live like they've promised for my school visiting tomorrow.

This also is putting stresses on our time frame for our new exhibition on the Sheffield Blitz that opens next week as of course our electricians wont touch anything while the power is out in case when it goes live something goes pop.

Sometimes I think perhaps a job in a supermarket would be less stressful after all.

Dove: you're definitely right about PACK. I've met some brilliant youth groups through the museum but I think being a stranger helps keep them reserved and quieter than normal. This lot...we'll see what happens.

    Afternoon image

We're back from the wilds of Scotland image Got home late Sunday and have been busy since then cleaning the van, washing clothes and all that other boring stuff you have to do before you feel properly 'Home'.

We had a lovely time in a beautiful part of the world. Far more familiar with the west coast and highlands but this made a very nice change and we've already decided to return before too long - still lots of places to see. Glad we set off home on Saturday. We saw a bit of snow on Sunday morning but it looks as though it was worse yesterday.

Congratulations on the maths Doc. I did maths to A Level & really enjoy tackling number / logic puzzles. Can't remember how to do calculus but graphs and basic algebra rock my boat. Really need to get a life...image

Does anybody know why we do mathematics (plural) and arithmetic (singular). Really bugs me when Americans say things like "You do the math" (singular) - but logically they are correct (I thinkimage)

Nice cake Chicky, you were always my favourite!image

Another day on the sofa, just can't seem to shake this virus.

Fascinating how many mathematicians there are on here, do gardening and maths go together?

I have to admit it is a bit of a struggle for me, but I am so fascinated by the idea of Astrophysics that I have to get a handle on the maths.

The older I get the more I realise that maths is the basis for everything else in the world.

Need to get a move on and cook supper for the worker, when she returns.

How can you lie there and think of England
