Evening all. Manky sort of day here and a bit breezy but nothing compared to the norm for winter. It's been very odd. Lots of dry frosty weather which is great, and only two small falls of snow - so far. I ain't complaining!
Sorry you're a bit cruddy again Dove. Lousy when you feel you should be ready to get up and go
doc - my head says go north east rather than north west, but my heart says north west. It's a no brainer really. You're absolutely right - west is best . Definitely the best hills, because of the weather, which of course is the only drawback! Have you seriously considered coming up here, or is it just wishful thinking?
My snowdrops aren't flowering yet Liri - but the ones near my work are. It's a bit higher there than me (I'm 400 feet above sea level) but perhaps more sheltered, but it shouldn't make that much difference. I'm just wondering if mine aren't the bog standard ones. Haven't really thought about it before
They were a gift from my sister, and they have quite bluey foliage compared to the normal ones. Perhpas I should investigate
I've forgotten everything else that's been said
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
How naive and stupid can people be? Says so much about the standards of education and press reporting in the US that people think this is normal belief and beahviour
Getting blustery here apparently and has stayed wet but nothing to get excited about. Up until 30/1 we had 0.4mm of rain. We are now up to 2.1mm. No fear of flooding the flower beds or pots then.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Sorry it's been tough for you today, LilyP. Hope tomorrow is better. x
Double snowdrops are now out in my garden, singles not. I'm sure you're right, Fairy, and some varieties are much earlier than others; I remember a conversation on here (or maybe a different thread) about varieties which are reckoned to flower in December.
The good news is that I saw the goldcrests again, 2 females and a male, apparently in a flock of mixed species including long tailed tits. They were on the Hamamelis again, and pretty well oblivious to my presence, so I took some photos (with my phone, camera battery is flat). However... the not-so-good news is that I'm probably the only person who could recognise the yellowish smudge as a goldcrest. Will charge up the camera battery and hope for another chance, in better light.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Im on the sofa with a blankie and am planning to get an early night - although whether I'll be able to breathe is questionable ... I'm so annoyed ... Thanks for the sympathy you lovely lot. I'll try not to spread it to you. Xx
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
((Hugs)) for LilyP, and tissues and sympathy for Dove
Not liking the weather forecast either - guess who is driving up to Liverpool tomorrow(Uni visit for littlest Chicklet). Think we might get blown away.

JK Rowling hits back at those threatening to burn her books and DVDs following her criticism of Trump.
"Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I've still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter."
Brilliant.
Not a good day, think I will just go to bed and finish it.

parish newsletter says we had 57mm to Jan 23rd. Last year it was 196.9mm . Average January is 127.57mm.
There was me thinking I had no need of the 2016 rainfall report.
Sorry it's been tough for you today, LilyP. Hope tomorrow is better.

Tuck up warm and don't feel any guilt in doing it either Dove - I certainly wouldn't
Hugs from me too LP. I understand that sort of day, having had one out of the blue last weekend xx
Good for her Hosta. What's wrong with these idiots? Frankly, they deserve Trump and everything dodgy that he does.
Lovely little birds Liri. Hope you manage to get some pix soon. Envious of the long tailed ones too - they're beautiful. Get the batteries charged
Stay safe tomorrow chicky. Don't be putting up any umbrellas.....
