Greater Knapweed is a native, I sow all my natives as soon as ripe, (or as soon as I can get seed) then leave them outside. Some germinate immediately, other at any time from the depths of winter onwards. But never give them heat, UK plants aren't used to that sort of treatment. Cold and wet is what they're used to.
Thanks for the advice about Greater Knapweed. I've had them on my bathroom windowsill, which is cold and wet enough for me. I'll move them outside tomorrow and try again if they fail. If at first and all that. Hopefully, in a few months I'll be able to post a photo of seedlings. Good to know Fishy65 and Nutcutlet have been successful and it is possible.

It's always worth looking to see where a plant comes from and in what sort of conditions it germinates naturally. Heat is for all those petunias and tender things

I'm sure that info will guarantee germination

You mean those gaudy things in hanging baskets? Actually I just googled petunias and didn't realise they are in the deadly nightshade/potato family
