Sandra, I planted all mine from plants I had last year. I had (still have) loads of Shaggy.
Perki and Nut, probably a stupid question - if Roma is sterile would it still produce seeds? If I can't grow from seed then it will make a bit of room ?.
I also grew Gill Richardson, and I've just sowed them (nothing to lose). Any idea where I find which are sterile (Not just astrantias) - Google?
Sweep peas in root trainers also coming up nicely:
All sown 2 1/2 weeks ago. I mixed the tiny lobelia and petunia seeds with fine, dry sand in an attempt to sow them more evenly but the lobelia decided otherwise, as always!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I thought Astrania Roma was a sterile. Shaggy is real nice variety.
Roma is said to be sterile, I haven't grown that one. But sometimes when you buy named varieties they aren't accurately labeled.

most of the astrantias are fertile Andy. Hadspen Blood certainly is.
When Hadspen Blood germinate prick out the ones with most pigment in the leaves, some aren't very dark, none of the named varieties seed totally true.
I'm having a bit of a poke around re Roma, RHS says deadhead to prevent self seeding

so does Claire Austin https://www.claireaustin-hardyplants.co.uk/products/astrantia-roma
Its sterility might be another one of those things that everyone knows but isn't true.

Hmm this is a picture of it - looks like Roma? Whatever it is definitely gave a decent number of seeds.
My money says they'll germinate
