Aquilegias seed sown in Autumn germinates in Spring. They don't need heat, a cold frame will suffice. Sown in March they germinate in about  eight weeks . I then pot into 7 cm pots. When the roots fill those pots they go in the ground, to flower the following year.

  • I gathered seed from my only Gaillardia plant last autumn and sowed them in a tray in the heated propagator on 10th March.  So far none have germinated.

Any idea how long the seeds normally take to show?

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think...

I sowed these on the 10th march,  no heat needed, they are quite hardy.

  • I think there must be a problem with mine then Lyn.  Are yours from fresh seed?

No Geoff, from a packet. They are very slow, I would suggest taking them out of the propagator and give them a bit longer.

I think I'm pampering them a bit too much.  I'll leave them on the windowsill and see if any germinate.  Thanks for all your responses.

Tend to get a bit carried away with Thompson and Morgan's cheap deals on seeds the image is early last year. I am going to be more controlled this year.......perhaps. image
