I don't have to sow any calendulas. They just self seed from wild seeds and there are already 2 on my front lawn. I might leave them there this year. I came home to see a round hole on the front border. I quickly got a spade and removed some of my favorite plants. It's not the first time plants have been stolen. Trouble is I have no idea what it was stolen, a round hole in the middle.
That's terrible Aym, I've had a few plants stolen over the years in the front garden. Somebody pulled up a clump of hyacinths. Last year I saw a neaghbour picking a rose. I was taking 1 of the dogs out for a wee, there she was smelling it and before I got to her she had picked it. Then she asked me if it was alright, I said no it isn't.When her husband found out he gave her a good telling off. He said she had been drinking and was taking the dog for a walk. One year when the tulips were in bloom, somebody came with a pair of scissors and started cutting at the stems. Hubby saw him and he ran off.
i have a cold frame greenhouse from wilkos burn is it best to try to grow perennial seedlings in it from March/April or just directly sow the seeds into the flower beds in the summer?

Depends on the seed. Poppies and foxgloves, for example, are best sown in their final position, great for just grabbing a handful of Seeds and throwing out there for a wilder look. Geraniums on the other hand are best sown in a propagator in a heated greenhouse or sunny windowsill. Sweet peas, however can easily be sown indoors, in individual cell trays, or sown directly into the soil depending on the month - doing both should give you a slightly staggered display.
Aym that's awful, truly despicable! I've heard of pots being taken, which is bad enough, but never people digging plants up!
I'm going to wait this year as I started planting in February last year and didn't have enough light, so everything got really leggy. I have some chillies so might plant those - I think they need an early start, don't they?
i bought a couple of kaffir limes from a street market in Frome.
they were full of seeds so I just planted them - and up they popped.
they haven't been wrapped up - it's just a bit of cling film round the bottom of the pot so they don't leak all over the place. They have been in a heated propagator though.
Just planted up some Echinacea's, Antirrhinum's, Cosmos & Rudbeckia, all growing indoors on my windowsill. There is something so special as seeing the little shoots coming to life through the compost, looking after them and seeing them blossom in your garden.

Question requiring advice please:

Absolutely thrilled with the success of these Kaffir Lime seedlings sown in November. I had no idea that they woukd all pop up.
Just hoping that they will continue to thrive as I am really keen to establish a few to keep me supplied with fresh leaves for "Thai-style" cooking.
