Claire: is that John Innes 2 you are using? Look similar to it.

    See original post

I've been using Westland's "John Innes Seed Sowing Compost" from Wilko. Seems to do the trick nicely

Compost I use is grow sure for seeds, last year I also used aldo seed compost which did well from Aldi, I am not so keen on JI just because it is so heavy - did use a bit last year and sometimes has stone bits in

That is a good lot of seeds you are sowing

Have collected some seeds from my phlomis to try and get more plants that way sometime will sow them

Chilli and aubergines being grown under the light I was given as a Christmas present - we have no particularly bright windowsill. image

bit concerned about the amount of light my seedlings were getting so potted on another 6 tonight, 5 buxton blues and 1 purple haze (only 1 germinated out of 10 :( )

So quick trip to B&Q and fitted a 100 lumen fluorescent light

Aym280, do you put your seeds on paper towels some where warm or in the he fridge? I'm trying to get some Astrantia seeds to germinate on a paper towel in the fridge. Last summer I sowed Astrantia ruby cloud  into seed trays and they've been outside in the cold frame, no signs of life yet.

Thank you aym280, that's very informative and good of you to take the trouble to find it for me?

Aym: Slum is an old school nickname - something that has followed me for 35 years! Nothing to do with my living accommodation image
