Hubby is finishing work in Belfast tomorrow evening, driving to Dublin for the midnight ferry, then planning on driving through the night from Holyhead. I am telling him to book into the first Premier Inn.  With the weather forecast, I  hate to think of him driving through the night after a rough ferry crossing.

Clarington. Time for some time in bed being pampered by OH.  If the schools have to cancel, tough. With the weather coming in, they will probably cancel anyway. image

I entirely blame the children Dove. Yesterday's lot looked like the school had only just recovered a bout of chicken pox (or scabies).

If I didn't go to work I know the school groups would be completely abandoned. I honestly don't think they'd be even greeted off the bus. I have a throat numbing spray and plenty of anti bacterial gel to keep me quarantined. This week's schools are both local so I don't see them cancelling.

Fidget: I hope husband isn't rolled around too much. It'd be daft to drive so late. Much better to sleep and wait for first light.

Other half has been sent to make pizza. I have frozen meals (many fish pie - which we had last night, and chilli but I don't think a streaming nose and chilli will suit) but I'm sure he can't mess up pizza.

    Can he?

    Evening all.

Clari - don't be a martyr. If they don't have a back up, it's not your fault. These things happen, and if there's no contingency plan, that's their issue and they'll have to cancel any visits. As has been said, they may cancel anyway due to weather, but that's beside the point. You need to look after yourself image

Hope OH doesn't have too much trouble getting back fidget. Lots of ferries cancelled up here, and all the bridges were closed. Think many still are. Don't get me started on that idiot who crossed the F.R. bridge after it had been closed and has caused major complications for everyone across there all day. The r***y lorry's still there too because they can't remove it till the wind subsides. He's been charged with dangerous driving - quite right too. Clown. image

Like the vultures Hosta. They get a bad press which is a bit of a shame. They do an important job so much of the time - apart from entertaining holidaymakers of course image

You're about 30 degrees more than here then. It was 2 when I cam in just after 5pm. We've had every type of weather today - leaden skies, lovely black clouds, a bit of sun now and again, and sleet/hail/snow showers   image

Rick Steins making salt cod fritters - they'd be good for a lurgy sufferer.

Mind you, we had OHs spiced parsnip and ginger soup for supper - it was wonderful.

  • Agree that working with children does carry risks. I have worked with them for 27 years now and they have kindly' shared' many of their bugs with me! However I have always ensured that I don't knowingly share mine with them. You may not always be fully aware of individual children's medical history( thankfully I am as it is a legal requirement of my job), some might have respiratory problems and catching  this lurgy could cause a serious outcome. So please Clari if you think you are coming down with this awful bug then stay home and look after yourself.....and the children. You certainly won't be thanked for 'sharing'.

    Take care x

Spent a few hours in the garden today, which did me the world of good, I think. Mainly crawling around on my hands and knees picking leaves off the beds, something I meant to do some time ago. Lots of tete a tetes poking through, and some snowdrops, though I appear to have planted wallflowers right on top of them! My garden's north facing and gets only the tiniest sliver of sun at this time of year, and so I didn't really feel like going outside. The forecast is for rain all day tomorrow though, so I did - at least looking up there was blue sky, most of the day.

BL I hope you enjoyed your panto and felt a bit bettr again today. Dove, I hope you're on the mend too, and everyone else in the Lurgy Club. Clari, I don't *think* it was me that passed it on - I've been washing my hands before typing & everything - but if it was, I'm sorry.

Obelixx how was the kitchen search? And fidgetbones, I hope all goes well with your OH's journey.

Ooh, meant to say too - very excited - someone on a local group on facebook posted offering a still-boxed lean-to greenhouse for free and I was the first to say yes! I've been thinking about trying one for ages, but wasn't sure what to get / whether I wanted to spend the money etc, so was thinking of trying to cadge some windows out of a skip and make a coldframe for starters, just to see - but couldn't resist this. For heaven's sake Clari.  Be sensible and stay at home.  400 kids have up to 800 parents and countless siblings, not to mention the poor teachers and it isn't fair to share your bugs with them all.  If they're really interested they'll re-schedule.  Stay at home and pamper yourself for the rest of the week and weekend..

Not a successful day here.   By the time we got to Nantes it was lunch time.  Fortunately this IKEA is in a smart new shopping centre which has lots of feeding options and we found a nice little brasserie.  Then a wee explore before hitting the kitchen planning dept.   Eventually we had a plan with everything we wanted except work tops and splashbacks.  The ones we want aren't on the 3D design system so we needed help.  One hour later, still no staff free and by then we'd done the taps and handles and bits of trim so I went to ask the supervisor.   15 mins later she and 2 chaps were free but one couldn't, one wouldn't and she faffed and dithered.   We left.

However, we do have a plan and can now compare prices with other kitchen shops whose sales all started today and between them and IKEA - once top management has had a letter - I shall get what I want.  Can't use my Rangemaster Busy as there isn't enough leccy but I can easily add some in the incomplete annex and plug it in there.

I hope those bugs are on the wane but do try not to do too much at once folks.

Fidget - hope hubby is safe.

Still calm here but set to change by the weekend.
