Roasted squash soup made - OH's favourite so he can take some to work for his lunch tomorrow - and a shin of beef and mushroom casserole simmering in the oven.

Now I shall put my feet up and get my knitting out ... If anyone's putting the kettle on, mines a coffee please image

Quiet here this afternoon. My cold is over the worst.

Hasn't got above freezing today so horses' water was frozen. Means carrying water in watering cans from by the house. I did have some 30L containers especially for that, to push in the wheelbarrow, but haven't used them for 2 years, last winter was mild. But they've disappeared. I expect someone, thinking they weren't used for anything image, threw them away.

Oh BL what a nuisance. We used to have a galvanised water barrel on wheels with long handles so you could stand between the 'shafts' and pull it around the yard. It was sort of suspended on pivots so you could tip it to pour the water out. It was great in the yards but getting it through poached gateways when the mud had frozen was tough going.

Glad youre on the mend image

Trip to Norwich today to buy duvets, covers and towels from John Lewis. Some very good deals to be had and the roads and car parks were nice and quiet for a change. W/rose on the way back so supplies bought for making hot pot / cottage pie / chilli and some fish dishes. Good cook-in forecast for tomorrow or Friday! All in all a good dayimage

Roads were quite damp and it looks set to freeze hard tonight - hope OH is ok on his bike Dove. Mine has been told to take care when he's on the country roads at 4am tomorrow morningimage

Glad you're feeling a bit better BL - not as cold here as central France but should still be a bit wintery for youimage

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

    Thanks Dove and Topbird.

Meant to mention that we dismantled the Christmas tree today. It was a Nordman so although it was a bit droopy it hardly lost any needles.

Glad you're a bit better BL. Pain about your water troughs image

DD - it's all been said already. No need to put a brave face on for us. These sorts of days are horrible, but they pass, even though you think they won't. If they don't seem to be doing that, and you're struggling, see your doc. I'm glad I did, and when I had another similar situation a few years ago, I was better equipped to deal with it, without going to him. Big hugs to you and Charlie, and here's to better days to come xxx

Chilly here, even when I came home from work a little earlier than usual. It was just below 2 degrees at 4pm. Lovely day though, and a clear sky so I saw the Moon and Venus and took some pix. They're on the other appropriate threads. Bit blurry but not bad.

The robin was sitting on the fence while I covered the car and topped up the screen wash. Think he was hoping for some extra tasty morsels. Got him some cheese and he was quite happy. He's a greedy little b***er. He samples the food on the ground first which the big birds can access, then goes in under the 'caged' bench which the blackbirds can use, then the  caged hanging feeder. He's not daft  image

Son just phoned - he'll be out on the country roads very early tomorrow too. Have told him to be careful. I could hear him rolling his eyes image

Fairy, we haven't introduced our robin to cheese. It was bad enough when he discovered we were the source of fresh mealworms image

They do seem to love a little bit of cheddar or, more commonly here, Cheshire cheese which is my favourite. There was a bit of Red Leicester which daughter had bought, but hasn't eaten much of, so it's going a bit green round the gills. 'Son of Dennis'  (I think it's the youngster) didn't seem to mind - nice and crunchy   image

The patio robin is currently turning his beak up at dried mealworms. He was totally spoiled in the summer when I bought some live ones. He's not getting any more until he has a new family to feed.

Its already freezing hard here. The gritters were out late afternoon.  I'm staying put in front of a fire.

They already did fidget  - kill him off . Think it was 'done'  for the last episode that was on recently - I wasn't paying it full  attention though   image

Minus 2 here - I've just been out to the car to get something.

Cuppa and Christmas cake and feet up now. See you all tomorrow
