Yvie, I'm not surprised that your roses are still soldiering on. If we visit any old neglected cemetery, guess what plants are still growing there. - roses!
the shop with all the Santas is a bit off-putting. I'm glad haven't seen similar here. What do people do with those things? Just more stuff to store away for 11 months plus each year.
Wonky, the pruning lesson sounds reassuring. Well done you.
Obelixx, the curtains sounds very swish. Hope you give us a look when the room is done.
Clari, I can just picture you and Reggie snuggled down. Funny how our pets seem to have a knack for equalising things out. I've been tempted to try the Almond milk - I'm not enjoying the trial Lactose free stuff. I haven't had a decent cup of tea since starting it. Does Almond milk taste ok? It's just a bit hard to imagine.
HRH is still curled up on her bed with no sign of needing a morning dash for the back door.
We are still in bed at 8am and don't feel the slightest bit guilty. We had our usual weekend visitor last night and it was a bit hard to get her to take the hint. I kept yawning in an obvious way, but got no reaction. I even did Fairy's new jigsaws while they were yakking about their day of Fire Brigade training (all day yesterday) and even passed my iPad across to show one of the beautiful photos that I had completed, but she didn't take the hint that I was finding the whole conversation rather boring.
Pat: the only milk I can tolerate in tea is a brand called A2. It's not strictly dairy free but lacks a protein that often causes upset and works for me. I never have found a non cow milk milk that goes well with tea! I try to stick to caffeine free herbal fruity teas but sometimes you just need a proper brew.
Almond milk is nice on cornflakes though.
It's raining hard now, so we've retreated upstairs to listen to the radio from the comfort of the bed. Freshly ironed bedsheets: almost seems a shame to let Reggie sleep on his lordships pillow... almost
I can hear my truck in the distance (you hear it at least five streets away). It has a distinctive warble that isn't loud but seems to cut through the traffic noise. Probably best go put the kettle on!
Down in Cheshire now with my parents and they are doing fine. The journey down was pretty good (not as many lorries on Sunday) but I'm ashamed to say I got lost and had to consult satnav to get here. Roadworks had created a jam so I got off the M6 early but got into the wrong lane on the roundabout and was heading for N.Wales.
Dd - just think of the elation you'll feel after the marathon and it will all be worthwhile.
Clari, OMG Santa had babies that look just like him. Perhaps we'll all get more presents this year. I've made a list.... but ......?
Wonky, glad the job is going well and that you are getting a good grounding. Hope the boiler is repaired tomorrow and you can be cosy in other parts of the house. Obelixx, you must have spent a fortune on paint to get to that many coats. Hopefully it will look better when it dries
I've decided that I adore Mabel Yvie. Why oh why did I just have boys?
Fairy I know the hills call you but think what pleasure you'll get from the couple of days work in the garden during the 'dark' months.
Sorry if I've missed folk - I do think of you all but can't always remember.
Oh - Hosta's rock. Something to behold in a beautiful setting
Well w have been in the basement y the fire all evening and its actually been lovely! Took stuffed roasted chicken and potato and leak dauphinoise down there and were snug and toasty! Glad I put the electric blanket on an hour ago though! Lesley, t go with the boiler....a guest blocked the loo last night...he of those modern weak flush types...lucky plumber is coming! glad your parents are well I get lost in this town and I've lived here twenty years! But as I keep saying, I hate the place so only learn the routes I need! Country girl at heart still and all the will in thee world I will never have the desire to learn my way around here!
Totally sympathise with sticky guests Pat! Tend not to be able to remove themselves! think I may join you in a jigsaw next time as I've watched every Poirot now.
Back to work tomorrow, blink and you miss the weekend! Nighty right folks
Satnav is especially good in towns when you can't stop and consult a map. Very good in unfamiliar countryside too or when diverted from beaten tracks. I do still prefer to check a route on a map so I have an idea of where I'm going but, after much resistance, find a Satnav is good backup and invaluable when I'm driving as the under gardener doesn't map read like what I do - Plan A, plus plan B scenic route at the ready if needed for trouble on long journeys, accidents, busy holiday weekends etc.. The one in our main car lists useful things like supermarkets and DIY stores as well as churches, tourist sites, restaurants and so on so is good fun but we do tend to switch off the Voice..
Lesley - when we decided to spruce up the Belgian house for sale we calculated a minimum spend of 800€ for Dulux paint in Belgium or about £450 in England so took ourselves off on a day trip to Canterbury for the same paint. They had a special offer on in Homebase so it cost us £250 for paint, rollers, brushes and trays. Had a good raid on M&S and bookstores too. I was told, too late, that I should have done 2 coats of grey to neutralise arange and blue and did just one of white. Lesson learned.
Pat - you're retired. Get up when you're ready. HRH too.

I'm home alone in the museum at the moment. This means the radio is cranked right up! For someone who is noise sensitive isn't it funny that I rather enjoy having the radio on in the background.
Brownies visiting tonight to explore and learn about the Great Fire Of London.
I'm going to get my CV dusted off and updated. Just in case. Alas I haven't seen any exciting jobs that catch my eye and mind.
Yay! The forum's working again Nora said the tech team were working on it ... and so they were ... they've fixed it!!! Heroes every one of them
Actually Clari, when working with children on the autistic spectrum, some of whom were hugely sensitive to noise, we found that for some of them, a gentle background sound really helped their concentration at school.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Wonky - blocked loo here at bedtime last night. Phoned the 24 hour line and guy was here at 9am. Lifted a slab and dug a hole in front path...no luck......drilled a hole in pipe at back of house and trailed two suction hoses round. . . . .Success. Half an hour later I went out the front. . . slab still up and hole not filled in plus he'd left spade and plunger. Came back and job done
Trust others have had a better start to their week.

I forgot Hosta. Sorry about that. Hosta, you must be getting really excited about your holiday - I hope we get to see some photos.

Using a SatNav is nothing to be ashamed of, Lesley, I often use one, very good in towns.
I hope, since we had before pictures, that we'll get after pictures from Obelixx, minus stripes!
Pat, we are often in bed at 8am and don't feel guilty.
We have just enjoyed a programme set in the war in Ireland. "My Mother and Other Strangers."
