Napoleon Solo's gone as well. I loved The Man from Uncle. Good age though.
Hosta - I think it's the sheer devastation of WW1. Those men had no choice. My Grandpa came home from WW1. I'm very fortunate that my Dad was deaf so he did his part in WW2 by playing in bands to entertain. I may not have been here if he'd been in the armed forces. My good fortune isn't taken for granted. For all those who are as lucky as I am, we owe them an enormous debt. The pain many of those men still carry is dreadful. It makes me angry when 'they' talk of not teaching about the wars in schools. It should be compulsory.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairy - many Scottish schools take teenagers to WW1 battlefields, museums and war graves in Belgium and France. That and a visit to the Menin Gate has a lasting impression on them and the staff.
Some of them have details of relatives who died in the war and, in Tynecot Cemetery, have been able to find the graves.
Joyce - it's something I heard being debated a year or two ago - perhaps it was only in some English schools and not up here. I just remember being horrified that it was considered to be not important or relevant any more.

The animals in war memorial on Park Lane gets me every time. I have to look out the other way on the bus . I'm glad we have reinstated the 2 minute silence on Armistice Day itself as well as the Sunday. It matters for everyone to stop to remember when they are busy doing ordinary things.
We went to the beach today. It was lovely - very peaceful
