Thanks everyone. The local press (not surprisingly since they seem to do their best to ignore us) don't seem to be picking up on the award but it probably doesn't help that there was no one answering the phone / emails yesterday. We didn't win: but second is a good start.

I hope it will help with funding: for starts we either need a new roof or more wet floor signs :(

Had a text from the boss asking what teaching qualifications I have. I'm assuming that the lack of will be a good way for them to get rid of me as "it's a requirement of the new project" as he's still not mentioned when my contract will be renewed. I will happily take any courses as required but can't afford to pay for them myself and training doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

Lots of temporary jobs available at my local supermarket but not much else.

  • Do they pay you the equivalent of a qualified teachers salary? Don't answer that - but if they don't, can they afford to pay a qualified teacher, whether it's you or someone else?

  • And would a qualified teacher tolerate the working conditions and erratic pay arrangements?

  • Also, are you a union member? If not it might be a good idea to join Unison - they can be very helpful with advice over employment contracts and just what can and can't be demanded of you.

    Good morning everyone.

Congrats Clari.  Maybe contact the local press yourself if you're in today?

P'Doc, maybe some gabions to reinforce your stream edge if flooding is likely to happen again?  So sad to lose plants like that.

Pat E - looks like you have your 3 things in the bag but they don't all have t be major.  Small things like a cup of tea at the right moment count too.

27 again today so we're off to walk the dogs and then head out to the coast in search of moules frites or crab for lunch.   I have a shiny new weather station to install to record temps, wind and rain.   Grey and drizzly this morning but we're still getting into the teens by mid afternoon so very mild still.

    Have a good day everyone.

You don't have to wait for jobs to be advertised Clari.

You could try some letters to other museums or other places of employment which really interest you. You have transferrable skills in marketing, event coordination / hosting and in training. Sing your own praises. Highlight the increase in museum visitor numbers. Stress how much outreach work you've done & the successful varied programme of events you now offer at museum. It's a good time to do it when you've just received official recognition for your hard work. (make a lot of the commendation).

Employers really like proactive people - especially for events / marketing / fund raising posts. Even if they don't have vacancies right now they will remember that you were interested enough to contact them. Has to be worth a few hours of your time.

    Good morning all, hi Patimage

Many happy returns Obelixximage.  Have a lovely day.

Pat the parrots are lovely and colourful.  It's so nice to have exotic visitorsimage.  Hope the rain has made a difference to your water levels.

Congratulations Clariimage.  All your hard work has made a difference and you'll just have to hammer that fact home to the 'powers that be'.

Fed up with gift shopping so today will be a baking for the freezer day.  At least the oven will make the house warmer.  It's brrrrrr out there this morning.

    Have a good day everyoneimage

Happy birthday, Obelixx. Enjoy your lunch.

Feeling very gloomy. The French pension people say that now I'm over 65 my pension will be less than it was. I've lost around 200€ a month off the English one thanks to Brexit and the exchange rate.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
