I've planted some perennials, daffs, species tulips and crocus - that'll have to do for today as my arm/shoulder is aching a bit and I don't want the physio to tell me off tomorrow image

I shall have my lunch then make some cheese scones and a beef casserole for supper.  I'll use some of the scone mix to make a cobbler topping for the casserole.

Then I shall get the knitting out ...

FG - I don't see why every adult not in education or on disability benefits should not contribute to the running costs of their local social and community services.  Far fairer than a rate system based on house values regardless of the number of occupants,   The poll tax, however, was badly conceived and badly presented do bound to fail.

    Sunshine here too now after a cloudy start.   Lots more of those funny little yellow crocuses opening up out the front;  Turns out they're daffs!   Sternbergjia lutea.   Gorgeous.  More cyclamen hiding under the rampant campsis by the old well so we'll have to hack that again and try and replant it somewhere more suitable as its stems have nowhere to go but over the drive where they get run over.;

  • Hello all,

Thanks Obs for the stuff from Vendee, I'll PM you the address, all helps and good to get information from all sorts of sources, makes it so much more interesting for him. image

Had to get the car fixed today, it was overheating, luckily the mechanic is very kind and fixed it for free, says he should have spotted it last time he had it, he has now shown me how to check the oil and water properly each week and has also booked it in for next week for something he needs to do, which apparently my ex OH has already paid for - so for now all ok with that - phew. image

Can't remember the last time I saw the seaside, I must try and put that right sometime soon. image

Tonight I have to take Charlie and another friend to athletics and then back to the house with the plumber and a builder to discuss implications of putting another bathroom in. Then if all goes well I am going to put an offer in for it and see what happens, all exciting but scary too, what if it all goes wrong, what if the bank say no, but then I just keep saying what if it all goes well, I must stay positive and focused, no point thinking negatively. image

Eye now a lovely shade of yellow and plum, bit achy but no headaches like last week. image

    Good evening to all. image

I totally agree with you obelixx - there are people who have never contributed in any way for most of their lives, but expect everything handed to them. It always made me angry that my parents paid a fortune in rates, simply because they had worked their a**es off all their lives and owned their house, yet some lazy b***ers could do nowt, while claiming everything they could and getting every benefit going, and then go on holiday umpteen times a year, run cars, have massive TVs ...the list goes on. Oh, and when they're too old to stay in 'their' home, they get care provided for them, while my parents would have had to sell up to pay for their care.  Makes you wonder who the mugs are....

I work with someone who has a family like that  image

DD - how kind of the chap to do that for nothing. Did you flutter your eyelashes at him? ....image

Good luck with your offer. I'm sure they'll be delighted to get it. You're such a positive person in the face of all the angst you've had to deal with, so I'll be crossing my fingers and toes for you  image

So will I, DD. Good luck.

I've actually done some gardening at last. 3 barrowloads piled high with past it flowers and some weeds from the long border. Also mucked out horses' field shelter, again. Shoulder is aching.

Happy to help DD.  There really isn't very much printed info but the poster is quite good to have   There are other posters up around the port announcing the day of departure and others saying the record is 78 days.

I think there's a yacht basin too so we'll go and look for that when OH gets his sardine lunch.

We have been to look at our future veggie plot and have met the 4 legged neighbours - dozens of gorgeous Blonde d'Aquitaine beef cattle with their babies.   Unfortunately Bonzo barked at them and they stampeded.  curiosity very quickly overcame fear but we'll have to keep him away from that boundary.

I hope you lot have been busy in the gardens while we looked after all the rain for you. My gosh moist is not the word! Still... better than a day knocking plaster off the walls (that's for tomorrow).

Clari - pity about the weather but Regi seemed to have enjoyed himself.

Obelixx - delightful neighbours plus the horses. . . . . plenty of good muck for your garden.

Cuppa finished so back to bed and, hopefully, sleep.

Morning all,  Can't sleep.  Cold is keeping me awake, so sitting here with a cuppa.  I'll take some drugs and see if that eases the symptoms.  Why hasn't anyone come up with a cure yet, I know it's not a life threatening illnes, but the common cold must cost the country millions in lost work days.
