Been lovely here today. Garlic planted, re-potted some daffodil bulbs, picked some more apples and harvested approx. 10 courgettes. Also harvested two bags of new potatoes growing in the cold GH, quite a good crop. I started to prune the climbing rose outside our home and my OH raked and tidied the driveway. A good team effort today.
I've been shifting turf and digging out soil to get on with laying the path running round the side of the house. Recycling the heavy duty slabs, which is fun. Only a couple of square metres of turf and soil to lift now ...
My bulbs are all planted now - no need to wait to plant tulips here. It was quite pleasant as it managed to get up to double figures after the early frost, and there was no wind. Ideal for grafting
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Had most of my bulbs delivered now so spent a cheerful hour organising them into different planting piles
Thought I couldn't be bothered to plant them after that but eventually got out before dusk and got 200 and a bit buried. Some in pots but a fair few in the ground, mostly the miscellaneous pile, nothing fun like daffodils Got them to do tomoz - love daffs - very exciting
On my allotment - still picking Autumn Raspberries- decided to pick all the apples off my "dual" tree as something is nibbling at the flesh - , suspect birds.
Tip from "Beechgrove garden" programme - wrap apples individually in glossy magazine paper before placing in storage trays in cool place.
Mixed green manure seed sown on greenhouse beds and on outside areas (covered with agralan) has germinated. Saw a red admiral butterfly on the Verbena bonariensis. Dahlias and chrysanths still a picture.
Seed saved from dw.french beans Safari and Nomad now ready for removing from dried pods and storing in Jam Jars.
Aym, why have you added water retaining gel to the soil? It is not particularly useful, except in pots. Clay with added manure should retain plenty of moisture.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

Tidied, weeded the veg plot, cleared out the old runner beans, and tomato plants.

Michael , must be exciting to have a Poly Tunnel for the first time , any plans for what you are going to grow in it ?
