I tried beer traps caught the dog drinking the slug ridden beer, yuck, I suppose you could put slug pelletts in a jam jar on its side, the would go in there, then its the bucket of saline!  Hubby (annual leave this week) is removing next doors **********blackberries from my trees and shrubs, got torn to bits, inspite of special gloves, etc.has got the shredder out.

I am lucky enough to have a neighbour and a good friend who has a huge garden that has loads of large trees in it.
Hubby has been helping him prune over the last week or two and we spent most of last week shredding it ready to mulch my beds.

Tonight I moved it all in the barrow......'it will only take 5 trips' OH said. Well after about 12 trips image I was finally done!

My beds now look fab and the other up-side is that my Fitbit is now registering about 19000 steps....not bad considering I was stuck in an office all day!

Guernsey , hello , no I don't bury them , lay them on the side and the slugs just crawl in , have virtually no slug ? damage at allotment

I have a Hosta bed in the garden and I put grit down and it seems to stop them , however , I do encourage the birds and are always finding empty snail ? shells

    Must be lucky image

Ah I was right then GWRS, when I said put them on theis sides, I am amazed how many there are easily count 20 per sq ft.  I also encourage birds, but they prefer the bird food.  Another barlmy or is that (barmy) hot night so not up till 7.30, outside with my cuppa check garden, and pulled some weeds inbetween paving slabs, no sun overcast but muggy.  If it rains, its blackcurrant and grape (not mixed!) cordial and raspberry jam today (making).

  • We once had a hedgehog walking around the garden that had stuck it's snout into a yoghurt pot, as children we laughed at the poor creature but did move the plastic pot from him, and so I would be concerned that a hedgehog may stick his snout into a glass jar - and either eat the slug pellets or get stuck or even break the jar.  I think I will put up with the slugs.

We needed rain and today we certainly got it, so no watering to do this evening.  We planted a new tree in the damp soil and deadheaded those plants that had been damaged by the earlier rain.

Not much gardening done here recently.

Popped some weeds out the lawn-grass, left the strawberry and primula things, haven't decided whether to be offended by them or not. Plus might need some primulas, I think they are giant cowslips.

Potted on some penstemon cuttings (from last year, still all in the same potimage) was reminded/shamed into it after reading a post on here. Got 10 plants, think I've got somewhere to put them later in the year. Took another five cuttings just in case...

Took advantage of Dobie's 6 perennials for £24 offer the other day (and added a GW code to help with the postageimage), four of them turned up today, really nice plants.

Haven't anywhere to put them yet but they'll be alright in their pots for nowimage

Yes, rain yesterday, water butts overflowing, (conservaotery with leaking roof being re-built next week so we had to move them, (2 off the conservatory) fine rain today, went to B & Q discount day, got paving slabs, Hubby has laid at the bottom of the garden by veg plot, to put compost bins on, they are the plastic ones that look like water butts, he is making (in the rain, as we speak) little "doors" in the front, because the only way up till now, you could get the compost out, is tip them up, then too much compost comes out, stupid idea.  I have only done a bit of dead heading, and removing (yet) more *******brambles pushing thru from neighbours.

What did you get from Sarah Raven, Nanny B?

I tried to do some gardening today, it has stopped raining but everything is sogged through.

Tried shaking the water out of things in the hope I can keep them going for a couple of weeks. Campanula Pritchards has collapsed over the path, as has linaria peachy on another path, my Yorkshire fog clumps are flat on the lawn as is the purple comfrey and the feverfew weeds I kept...image

On the plus side the big butts are full. I need to take a look at the little butt as it takes forever to fill I think the water just drips from the gutter connection, can't really be bothered with fixing thatimage

Did some deadheading, I trimmed the blue buddlea later and less than usual and as a result it has been flowering for a week or so already and looks fab, couldnt get close enough to deadhead much though, thought I might fall in the pond.

Most of my cosmos haven't been eaten so that's coolimage
