Enjoy your day at Chelsea Tootles - I have enjoyed what I have seen on the t.v. this week and especially Raymond Evison (Montrose clematis) winning yet another gold in the Pavillion.
Yes, I do that too Iamweedy, and often get given plants in return which are always nice to receive.
Spent 2 hours outside this morning, but got too hot for anything strenuous, 1 hour this afternoon and again one hour this evening just watering. My pond edging is looking good as I cover up the mypex with Cornish pebbles of various sizes.
Spent the day in the hot sun, 30°, that's the shade temp, in the veg garden. I had to plant stuff as may be going to stay with son because of new GD. I'm getting behind anyway and my plants would have needed re-potting if not planted. Planted runner beans, courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers, lettuces, broccoli, French marigolds. Watered it all well. Think I may have overdone it though, felt dizzy and have a headache.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hope you're okay BL, have something stodgy to eat, that always cures the shivers.
Iamweedy, I have tried Gumtreeing my unwanted plants for free but I found it a bit of a time consuming faff. Sadly, it's easier for me to chuck in the bin
Had fun in the garden today, although I'd prefer to be sat inside now while it whizzed down as promised. Had a slight shower only, there's a weather warning for goodness sake and I started butt 4 of 5 today.☹️?
Did some weeding, bind and Sticky William for the most part, also most of the forget me nots as although still flowering they are at that rubbishy looking stage. Topped up the pond and watered some needy things, having to triage them as water is so low.
Potted on the everlasting peas, had six plants but potted them on as three, I don't need that many, also potted on hollyhocks and some bedding.
These are some , been thinning out the trays as things germinated. Did a seedling audit and reckon I have enough. Doing away with the fence baskets next year, moving some clems onto the fence and the everlasting peas.
Musing over my middle-of-the-garden revamp as it as expanded slightly due to a desire for more dark blue camassia and an issue with the blackthorn taking over my wooden bench. Too spiky to share a seat with. ?
Spent a productive hour or two in the much neglected front garden this afternoon. Husband on his hands and knees weeding the centre bed, daughter helping me to weed path and flower bed and her partner with his trimmer cutting back large camellia bushes, we did a lot in a short time, but plenty more to do next time.
Still putting pebbles around the pond edges, planted some gherkin, courgettes, squash and spinach outside in the veg patch and played with the cat.
Productive day although not out for that long. The twins and our eldest pulled up all the tulips in our raised bed and my other half planted out the bedding plants (salvia, begonia).
I managed to plant out 3 tomatoes, put another in a hanging basket and gave to a neighbour, planted 3 cucumbers in a large container and also popped a courgette in a container.
Forth cubic metre of bagged soil since March on the garden. The final part of the bagged soiI I have bought went onto the border at the bottom of the garden. It is looking much better now with the worst of the dips filled in.
OH has just been sent to a nearby house and collected two more batches of some Freecycled soil offered by someone clearing a garden to make a drive. It appears it is in great demand by lots of neighbours. He has returned with several bags and bins full and we practically have another cubic meter. I am certain though all that will not really go as far as I might hope. I will have to get the remains of the soil out of my car tomorrow.
I really cannot do the heavy lifting of the soil but I did rake it out on the borders.
A dry afternoon here, but heavy rain and storms this morning and again tonight. We didn't need to water today and we visited an open garden this afternoon. It was fabulous - with a wild flower meadow, numerous granite troughs and ornaments, a small glasshouse and some very interesting plants including Bird of Paradise, Crinodendron and elder sambucca.
