More sunshine today so dug another hole and planted my second clematis "Duchess of Northcliffe" which is a pale blue one to contrast with my lovely deep red rose "Royal William" (planted in memory of my dear father Henry William 25 years ago). It's had three moves from previous houses but is still going strong. Although it does get terrible blackspot, the fragrance is divine and I love it.

  • Hooray! Got booted, and gloved, armed with trowel, bone meal and a few perennials, got down the steps to the garden, and the heavens opened!! However I sheltered for ten minutes in the porch, and managed eventually to do some planting, with my neighbour offering advice!! His garden is a tip!!😠😬

Planted out half a dozen delphiniums which have been potted-on since last spring, adding to an existing 'stand', extending it to about 3m x 1m .  Also planted Rosa 'Paul's Scarlet Climber'.  to go over a tall gate.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Just did some more sowing in greenhouse as too wet for anything else. Propagator nearly full already in spite of having moved some things out. Hope the forecast for end of week is correct might actually get something in the ground at last.

Got back from work with milk for the baby and juice for the kids and spent an hour getting acquainted with my new garden shredder.

Its slow work, but it does reduce branches into powder so I got another bag of pruning into my green waste recycle bin.

Next stop 5m2 of cherry laurel and 3m2 of ivy!

Also filled a planter with ericaceous compost, some multipurpose, potting grit, three heathers and a blueberry root wrap.

Did some pruning, am very behind with it. The ground is too wet for weeding or planting.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Got through about a cubic metre of dry branches of ivy, cotoneaster and tree with the shredder.  Will use this as surface for the seating area.

Added more to the weaved fence.

    Glued together some broken pots.

Started clearing the future seating area.

  • I have repotted my 4 clematis plug plants for the second time - three of them have a good healthy root system, they are just 2 - 4 inches tall.  Planted some liatrus spicata bulbs although I did wonder if I should have soaked them - they looked very dry, probably because I have waited so long to get them into soil due to the poor weather. OH dug over the last of the old hedge border - the soil is still very heavy.

Do you mean you glued terracotta pots?  If so, I'd be interested to learn which glue is suitable for this, e.g. withstanding frost.
A 'weed' is just a plant in the wrong place - subjective! ;)

Nothing significant at all done for the last 2-3 weeks, two trapped nerves, slipped discs and on going flare up of the spondylitis in my back. Envying you all at the moment, I'm itching to get out there. I think I'll have to give my helper some jobs - spring brings so many of them.
