Finished my strawberry planter at last and planted up the strawberries - hooray! After all the effort and care I have taken over this, I will be very disappointed if I don't get any strawberries this year! I also put a 120 litre bag of bark mulch around the path to finish that area off. Now for a rest and cup of tea. Oh, and my Soloman's Seal is just coming through.
Sowed a few more seeds - little gem, rocket and radicchio - and finished cutting the grass while OH took the dogs out. Watered and weeded the pots still waiting for new beds and permanent homes. Got very excited when I saw the first swallows swooping and we've just spotted the first of the hoopoes is back.

Started hardening off today, such a balmy day. The wind nearly ripped every leggy seedling off. But no greenhouse so have to bring back indoors again. Weather not looking good the next few days so have to hang back a bit. Hope to use cloches next week. Only thing to worry about is stopping them from levitating when the wind whips everything about.
Where are you Lizzie? Yesterday took dogs on the beach, people wearing t-shirts and shorts, oh and some sandels. Spent 2 days out there, solid, dont remember, garden was such hard work last year! (Dont anyone on here DARE say, its because I am a year older!!) Hubby retired last week, cut the grass yesterday for the first time his year, its always been MY job even when I was working. I have planted up a couple of tubs, baskets. Normally I do my summer baskets at Easter, then they go firstly into a heated greenhouse, but most of the plug plants I use havent been delivered only have the ones I bought locally, plus looking after grandkids, (hard work) Removed some old tatty stuff, some dead, hes been putting up a new fence, started before the first snow, then had to wait a month before doing the next lot. 2 weeks ago, he spent 12 hours out there on the fence, hopefully dry enough omorrow, no one son coming over to help do the last bit, course, now the brambles and ivy are gone, I have a load more border to fill!
Hello have been on holiday over Easter , so mist the bad weather Feels like spring has finally sprung , Bulbs etc looking good and Hawthorn hedge starting to green up And grass could do with a cut

The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Not much today as I'm waiting for a parcel collection and don't want to miss them. Just potted up some cuttings and tidied up the greenhouse to make more room. Running out of space fast now.
Been trying to sort the veg garden yesterday and today. I'd left the weed suppressant fabric over winter but weeds are growing through all the old planting holes. Started taking it up in the main bit in front of the GH to prepare for rotavating but the earth is horribly wet and sticky, clay. It's had a lot of manure over the years and it's usually OK, but because of all the rain it's almost like stage 1 again. I've taken up a sheet of fabric, dug it by hand, added 2 dustbin loads of homemade compost and blood, fish and bone, put back the fabric and sown 2 fat rows of broad beans and 1/2 a row of mange tout peas and 1/2 a row of Sugar Snap peas.
Then I started on the bit behind the long side of the GH. That's where the cut flower bed and the broad beans were last year. Winter of 2016 I'd stored a heap of horse manure there which I then used for that bit and other bits, like the runner bean patch. That bit of soil is now lovely and much easier to work. It isn't as wet as the main bit. I will use that for more cut flowers and onions this year, but I haven't bought the onion sets yet.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Rain has stopped play, which is just as well as I have a grandchild coming for a sleepover and need to change her sheets.
