Moved a recently planted Amelanchier and watered it in. Moved it again. And then dug it up and turned it round. And then moved it again (back to the original position).

Great use of my time there.

  • image Hee hee, that's the sort of thing I would have done WillDB (and frequently do)image

Did a tonne of weeding today, probably should have done another half tonne. Potted on some primula seedlings that I found had germinated after all, vialli and vulgaris, at least I hope that's what they are. The rest that germinated were dead nettle.

Moved anemone ruffled swan out the shade border, it's an okay plant but not tough enough to live alongside the other plants in that bed. It survived the winter though, unlike wild swan.

Dug up the edge of the grass and planted some tete a tete that I had in pots. I hate planting bulbs in the green, what a mess. Don't even really like tete a teteimage Also moved some daffs that were in the way.

Had a brilliant idea for a winter project, it involves moving the pond, two trees, a pathway and buying a bridge. Hmmm??? it'll be a faff and a f*nny-on but I just can't get it out my head, it would look so cool?

Today I weeded and cleaned the 3 brick cold frames by the GH. Then I put plants from the GH into the frames to harden off. It all took longer than I thought it would. It was 21° in the shade today and hot in the sun. Then I weeded the area and climbing frame that I had prepared some time ago for peas and sowed mange tout peas - 2 months later than last year! So the old label said, but maybe I'd sown them in pots in the GH.

Still haven't got around to weeding the rest of the long border.

I created a plant 'intensive care unit' last year and today it received a new admission. My Helenium had started sprouting up but the slugs have located its lush new growth - so I have dug it up, potted it up and rushed it to the ITU. It will be treated on the top shelf of a potting bench with intensive anti-slug management until it is big and strong enough to return to the soil.

I have placed a Geum in its place so this may end up staying but there will be room next to it.

The other ITU 'patients' include two Delphiniums, a Lupin and an Agapanthus. The Centaurea was diagnosed as well enough to be discharged from the ITU today!

Built the sides to my revamped and raised bed today and filled it with 10 barrowloads of home made compost:

I'm sure the bed will look awesome planted-up, but I'm just as impressed with the volume of compost you have generated! Good work.

  • I think it's cool you're tolerating the foxcubs Doghouse, it's a nice thing to doimage

I didn't do a great deal today, potted on some lupins I sowed, I don't need them but had forgotten I sowed some last year...

I've had to rescue a lot of new plants this year, 3 from snug attacks and a few from general malaiseimageMy ITU is called the malingerer's ward, AuntyRachimage, it contains a few worthy cases, but mostly the homeless and drunkimage Never had an aster struggle on me before, but had to pot one back up today. How weird, wonder if it's been too dry...

I have had a full day in the garden but mostly cleaning. Cleaned the greenhouse, garden furniture and some pots. Painted an old cheap plastic pot in some grey exterior undercoat I had left over and had a go at making a stone lookalike planter out of an old polyester box. Also painted this in the grey paint and hopefully it will good enough to use to plant a my radish in.

sorted out the garden hose and put on a new spray gun I bought in the end of season sales last year. Put some coir in to soak with some vermiculite and slow release plant pellets ready for tomorrow and potting on the dahlia tubers.and last but not least went around the garden clearing my weed buckets and put them in the recycle sacks ready for collection. General compost into the compost bins and given a stir and a handful of compost pellets. I am now in need of a hot shower and cold drink.

Had a busy day too. Potted on tomato and sunflower seedlings - found a plastic chop-stick was excellent for this! I also planted one of my scented Pelargoniums, a citrus smelling one called Charity, into an 'down under' pot. You plant up the pot, let it establish good roots then you invert it, hang up and gradually the flowering spikes turn upwards - really pretty and unusual.

I also gave my compost bin a treat of blossom and cardboard shreddings and a good mix.

    Revamped border finished!

Planted up, mulched with 6 bags of FYM and given a good drink:
