Planted rocket last year as an experiment, but removed it all. Noticed something growing between the violas the other week and decided to let it develop until I could figure out what it was...flowered yesterday and realised it's rocket
Put the Lemons "to bed" for the cold weather, on Saturday I put a frame round them that is "Glazed" with polycarbonate sheet just in time it seems as we have had 2 cold night in a row now. Cut grass front & back hoping this might be one of the last cuts of year. Off the the Plots now to see if the Dahlias are still green or not.
Over the past couple of days I've washed the greenhouse inside and out. I've also dug up the dahlias and left them in the garage to dry out and mulched the bed they were in with the used compost from the tomato grow-bags that were in the greenhouse.
Unpacked a delivery of perennials that arrived earlier in the week, put some of them on the ground where I'll plant at some point.
Cut back a cotoneaster that I would like to be a wall shrub, some of it is, some does what it likes. Trying to get a bit of light underneath for a smallish Berberis and more importantly a young Paul Noel rose which always gets overgrown.
I wasn't going to buy an excess of Spring bulbs this year, as have too much moving to do to plan properly but ordered some fairly decent things in a sale. Most will have to go in pots until next year though.
Blackbirds have returned, a couple of them from wherever they go, mostly bickering and not foraging at the moment.
Moved 15 of the stumps and boughs to the side and back of the house. Have two I don't have spaces for yet and need to sort the pond edge before I arrange some others.
Had a flash of inspiration on where to move a hydrangea, slightly off centre of the middle of the lawn. Doesn't sound inspired but roll with me, I think it'll be okay ?
Leaf clearing is a full time job here too as there are massive Ash trees which cover my drive in a golden carpet. My extra-wide broom has finally disintegrated so may need a trip to replace that today. Reminds me of that sketch about having a broom which has lasted for years, and had 17 new heads and 14 new handles! (Only Fools and Horses).
Aunty , we use to get a lot of leaves until the trees in the field next to us got blown down in a gale and I invested in a Leaf vacuum that shredded the leaves at the same time , It was a great investment , would recommend one
Decided to dig up the biggest eupatorium today as part of the changes planned for the pond edge. Took ages to get it out, it was about 18" across and I ripped lots of the roots. I had planned on replanting elsewhere but I couldn't be doing with it. There'll be seedlings everywhere if I change my mind, plus I've have two other named types.
Now that's gone it has opened up an area I only get to see in Spring. I've planted 4 Yorkshire fog at the edge of where I intend the new beach to go, will probably put logs there also.
Moved a Deschampsia Mill End 3 times, it didn't look right anywhere.
Made some bin decisions, marsh mallow and the rodgersia are going, they don't add as much value as some other plants.

Unexpected rocket lettuce discovered yesterday

Moved about 5 cubic metres of woodchip, some into dumpy sacks over tree stumps, some on the edge of the lake to make the "path" wider.
Very satisfying.
More leaf clearing. A never ending job at this time of year.

Mowed the lawn, hopefully for the last time.
