Lovely weather so lots of leaf clearing and cutting back done.

  • Was quite productive today, spurred on by my week off being nearly overimage

Moved some big stuff to the front garden, a cirsium and a couple of eupatorium. You never see things like that in front gardens round here so hoping they do okay. The cirsium is a lovely plant.

Binned a Hannay's bidens as it has never flowered and just moves around, also dug up an astilbe and two Japanese anemone as even though they flowered sort of they were black spotted and looked depressing. Replaced the last three with Suave daffodils, a bistort and a marjoram respectively.

Noticed some of my daffs had gone soft when planting some in my new marjoram border. This was good because it forced me to get the rest planted, they've been in the shed for weeks.

Moved my best hellebore, never moved one beforeimage. Planting a rose called Celestial in that area when it arrives to add some height. Also moved an aconitum out the way, I think Royal Flush. The soil there is really dry, under my neighbours conifer hedge. Found room for 3 lots of daff bulbs in that border.

Planted up some of the dry shade border elsewhere, moved in an aster schrebei (???) and a fern that appeared from somewhere. Need more stumps to finish it off.

Planted my new bargain helenium Mardi Gras, moved in persicaria blackfield from a previous rubbish spot behind my pear tree, it couldn't shine there and it needs to shine. Binned a vernonia I've had for years but isn't very good and some scabious I grew from seed. Lovely colours, irritatingly floppy.

Delivery dude just rocked up with a trellis, another thing to get doneimage Maybe tomorrowimage

You have made the most of your week off Victoria

More leaf clearing, cutting back and bulb planting here.

  • Leaf clearing does seem to be a relentless task doesn't it, and just when you think you have finished another strong wind blows more leaves down.  No good trying to clear them up whilst it is still windy either.  Do you bag your leaves up to make leaf mulch/mould Joyce?

GD, some get bagged but the ones in shrubby areas get left to rot down.

Nice day in garden , cut lawns , surprised how much they had grown , cleared leaves from paths etc. , don’t have many so they go in garden bin , cleaned hosta bed

G/H gets sun in morning and late afternoon , when I looked this morning it was 90 degrees , amazed , opened door , automatic vent was fully open , looked at overnight temperature and it went down to 5:3

Glorious sunny, almost wind free day.

I've cut down some more trees around the lake .

    Very therapeutic.

  • Beautiful day here too, got quite a bit doneimage

This was the best bit, a delivery of wonderful stumps and logs:

The tree surgeon was great, he knew all the trees, I've got cedar, spruce, apple, cherry and poplar, there were others I've forgotten. I got poplar last time and they have started to rot, one shattered the other day when I went to move it and showered slug eggs everywhereimage Apparently poplar is a light wood that rots quickly (?) which probably explains why I could lift those and some of these I can barely roll.

Probably silly to be excited about stumps, but I can't help itimage

Main task today was putting wires up at the back and side of the house ready for a couple of bare root roses. I also did a bit of mulching. As I was shoveling compost from one of the heaps our cat spent quite some time staring at another of the heaps. I think I'm going to find some rodents when it comes time to turn it!

It's not just you Vic - I suspect many of us get excited about such things!
