I started a few jobs today but didn't finish them.
Started digging an area where I'm going to make a new beach and bird washing area for the pond. There are bulbs there that I'm going to move to the allotment, same with the displaced mud.
Decided to pick the worst and tallest of the plants out the block paving on the drive as it was making me look a bit crazy. Left quite a bit of moss and liverwort, and some self sown plants close enough to the border to blend in
Then turned my attention to a bed in the front garden that is infested with a grass I call deschampsia. It's got out of control this year, had to get rid of an aubrieta mound due to the tangle and might have to do the same with some other stuff☹️ Need to dig it all out, dug some out, had to bin loads of soil too as the roots mat it all together. Propped a veronicastrum back on the soil, no point replanting yet
Victoria , o/h makes sloe Gin as well , if you have to many you can freeze them , you can also use the Used sloes from the Gin , to make sloe port , have you made it before ?
Just got back of hols , garden needs a tidy up , lots to do at allotment
I have never heard of Sloe Port either, so it will be interesting to know how this is made.
Some dry weather this morning so planted out 10 new cyclamen, thanks to my friend for the delivery. They look lovely and I hope they will stay in flower for a few months over the winter.
I also planted 2 echium and one silk tree in our new border.
Victoria , recipe - used sloes , bottle of red wine , 100 grams of ordinary sugar (or thereabouts) , leave for about 6 weeks , taste it and add brandy to taste (a couple of tablespoons - taste and add more if you feel it needs it). Strain well and then bottle. Once you start drinking it, it doesn’t last long!
We used the used sloes berries and coated them in chocolate but didn’t really like them. Remember they have stones in.
Dug more grass out the front garden and replanted. Found room for 3 homeless plants, got dozens to get in the ground, things I've bought and made
Looked for more daff bulbs in the new beach area, there will be loads more but it's a start.
Started making a crazy paved area under the bird feeders with some broken slabs. The ground was manky from discarded seed and I though this might be easier to clean up.
Tied in Vielchenblau (?) rose and half of Golden Gate, can't access the other side just yet. If anyone wants a hazardously spikey yellow rose, I can recommend GG.
Moved some plants into the triangle bed, a lythrum salicaria and salvia purple rain, I need their spaces for something else but also I fancy a strong mix of pinks and purples in the triangle bed.
Bought the two best plants on the clearance shelf at B&Q:
There's so much rubbish on the sale shelves, dead bedding and ragged acers and then occasionally you find something great. I'm sure they compost all the perennials and try to sell the bargain dead annuals to the public?
Found this geranium which amused me somewhat, passed on it though

Hope all’s well with everybody
Hi GWRS, hope you had a good holiday
I haven't made sloe gin before, and haven't heard of sloe port - how do I make that?
My preserving book suggests eating the used sloes but the port does sound interesting
Victoria , I will get recipe for you
That's kind of you, thank you?

Let us known how you get on

Volunteer day at Capel manor mostly leaf clearing, beautiful day quiet as it's half term so most students missing.
Brill, thanks GWRS
