Went down to Homebase and found that they have reduced all the spring bulbs to half price , so bought 20 Narcissus Thalia for £2.50 , got home and planted them up in pots . Never grown them before but they looked so lovely in the picture and they say they are very fragrant , so I'm hoping I haven't left it too late in planting them .
Cut the leaves off of the hellebores as flower buds just emerging. Also pulled some ivy up which had trailed over the beds from the native hedge. Lots more of that to do!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Pruned a few more rose bushes, potted up another lettuce - I have 5 lettuce that are providing us with fresh leaves everyday for our salads in the cold GH. Removed a few more stones from our proposed pond and attached a new pipe to the soakaway which will be under the pond liner. Must take some more photos.
Good job I'm on holiday - just had 5 bare root roses delivered together with about 100 bulbs, all of which I'd forgotten I'd ordered! Might just put the roses in a bucket of water and plant them tomorrow when the weather is forecast to be better (dull and drizzly at the mo.)

Well you have got your work cut out for tomorrow Bob, a busy day ahead for you!
Nothing done today apart from collecting a few more lettuce leaves from our pots of mature lettuce in the cold GH. Watered one or two pots that felt dry to the touch and had a walk around the garden. Feeling a bit yuck lately so trying to stay out of the garden in case I find myself involved in a job that needs too much energy which I am lacking in. A good excuse to chill out in the armchair.
Bob - your roses will be all the better for a day's soak.
GD - hope you perk up soon, in time for Xmas anyway.
I have just tidied away all my empty pots and troughs and trugs and planted out 8 dwarf, perfumed dianthus - all still flowering - and the last of my bulbs which were an assortment of dwarf, botanical tulips rescued from a tub before the move and a bag of new crocus. Did all the others - mixed daffs and unknowns - yesterday along with a mix of hemerocallis and some potentillas but the beds are so dry, even deep down I'm going to have to water them with the sprinkler tomorrow morning to give the bulbs a good soak. Can't do it now as we're expecting more frost.

Had a few hours sun (but cold) so did a bit of pottering.
Hellebore leaves not cut back yet.
