  • Oh Clarice, what a wonderful display of relishes and chutneys - well done.  They look so colourful and interesting.  Do you sell them - if not, why not?  We have a few hedge veg. chutney stalls over here - honey too, as well as all the usual veggies and other garden produce (books too).

Love your little blue tit - so tame - how did you do it?  Ours usually fly away as soon as we open the house door, the robin is a little tamer but there is a cat around which doesn't help the bird population.

  • GDonkey ?. No we keep them all for ourselves and they last months. I really love my chutney...(more chillies the better for me), hubby hs a milder version ?. Our other tits etc fly away also, just don't think this wee one was quite right, just the way it was acting and had trouble opening seeds etc so I did it for him/her, was ok  the balls...didn't see it after a few days, I honestly think it didn't make it sadly ? But what we think was its siblings, they still come.

  • Sun is fighting a losing battle to come out today Aym and wee bird was just eating from one of the balls you buy with the netting on. No we don't go looking for truffles.....(specific areas) and the French are very secretive to where any are, even there favorite mushroom/sep spots but yes we have picked mushrooms ourselves and if we don't know the type, we take to pharmacy and they let us know.?

  • Thanks for posting the videos aym280, I will take a look at those. You and clarice673 are right the cold does make a difference.I won't need to tend to anything out there over the winter unless its a very dry spell which is unlikely here. I have to get some pansies potted on this weekend, I have neglected them a bit, the roots are hanging out and they are looking sorry for themselves and full of aphids. Don't seem to have much luck with pansies from seed maybe I should give in and buy some.

The preserves look excellent clarice, the only edibles I have grown are chives and rosemary. I may try growing more herbs but I don't have the room for veg, wish I did, so nice to be able to eat your own and know what its grown in and whats not been sprayed on it. The bird pictures are lovely, we just get house sparrows and pidgeons here. I am sure I read at one point that sparrows were on the decline, I have not noticed that here. I would swap some for a few of those beautiesimage

  • BloodRose, have you not a small piece of land or maybe a window box....sunny window sil? if so then you can grow sweet peppers and chillies and tomatoes.... maybe even some trailing strawberries? ?

  • Didn't manage the potting on today as the rain pelted down this afternoon and not long off, just managed.....(with help from Pepsi our collie cross) to get chickens back into there run before the worst of it.??, therefore decided to do my hair and nails while hubby did dinner ?. Now relaxing under blanky on sofa with verre du vin blanc.....?????

  • Clarice I have no ground soil at all, a concrete yard with wall pots, hanging baskets and containers. I have garden envy when I come hereimage I may try strawberries in a hanging basket. The others were good suggestions too but I can't eat any of the nightshade family, I love the taste of tomatoes and peppers but they are sadly off the menu. Lovely photos, what is the blue flower next to the pond? It is striking and a lovely shape.
