Well to be honest, they prefer shade, it's the frost that "usually gets them" and we have had quite a bit past few weeks but they seem to be holding their own in the wee plastic greenhouse...I also still have some celery and cabbage....and totally under plastic covering is "Sweet POTATOE slips" which I'd sprouted from a shop bought one in the summer then popped in ground....they have slowed down but are looking very healthy....(for now lol)! ??
Meant to say Aym, hubby doesn't like pak choi nor rainbow chard but I can lift and eat it as it is, but also love it in stir fries or just steamed and rolled in garlic butter and crusty bread ?
Had Roast chicken the other day Aym with allllll the trimmings ?. I'm hoping I feel a bit better tomorrow also...but not holding out much hope for a few more days yet ?♀️ lol....(One kidney and other one "3times size of an original" plays up bad now and again so I've got to watch out). As long as I'm ok for Christmas Day then I will be happy ?????. Nite Nite Aym ?
Vishu: Did you bought this? They are so beautiful - dainty and there are so many new varieties. You know you can actually grow them yourself even in hot weather. I don't know about India, but in Hong Kong, we always pot grew them indoors and every Chinese New Year, we would have this lovely fragrance on the mantelpiece, next to a Kamquat or satsuma plant.
The day one of my brother was flying to the States, my sister forgot to turn off her fire for her kettle and went to the airport to see him off. When she went back home, she saw her narcissus had grown by a foot! Terrifying! Could have been worse.
Wonder if putting it in the fridge will help! LOL!
Narcissus is indeed very beautiful. I am going to open a new patch just for them.
Vishu: persevere! It's worth it. If we can grow Gloriosa here, I am sure you can see if you can pot grow them. This summer, I am going to try to grow water lilies from seeds. I saw this Indian on youtube and it was so easy for him to germinate the seeds. I will never forget that he said the seed would germinate in 200 years' time... Wow!
Thanks amy . Yes, i bought bulbs, from a stall in a plant exhibition and fair. ....... And i will save them for sure....... I love bulbs...... I hope to see them bloom and multiply for years and years to come........
Many narcissus species can be grown here........... Even early flowering tulips with a bit of pre chilling......but getting them is a trouble........ Only way to get them is to order in bulk from one of the nurseries in hillstations and i cant afford that (am in college)
Never tried to grow waterlily from seeds....... It's easy enough with tubers........ But have grown lotus from seed.....that was pretty easy.......Do share your method, progress and pictures of your growing waterlily from seed adventure............ really looking forward to it.
Thanks for the links......will check them out....i also tried scaling lily bulbs last year and it worked......have lots of Asiatic lily bulblets this year....... Lost the mother bulbs due to lack of information and dried them out like gladioli .Now i know my mistake and won't repeat it....waiting for the bulblets to mature.....and visiting nurseries regularly to see if they have lily plants available(getting any winter or spring bulbs is very difficult)
I also have had success in propagating gladiolus, ornithgalum, Tritonia, oxalis, canna, Iris, waterlily , water chestnut, Eucharis, daylily, Football lily, taro, caladiums, amaryllis, Heliconia , both single and double Tuberose (they grow like weeds) and zephyranthus (rain lilies) but my most prized ones are Freesia......2 years ago, i planted 2 bulbs...... This year, they multiplied to 23 bulbs.......
Hope you find some good stuff . Feel free to share pics of treasure you see.......
