reading that sungold are exceptionally sweet, mine are too and I thought they were s/gold. It was only when I read this thread and g/bee said they're round, I googled and looked at the label and they should be round.
Whatever they are, I'd happily grow them again.
Every year I buy from the local nurseries and there's always 1 or 2 that are not what they are supposed to be (bored kids while the parents shop probably).

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
I thought Dobbies were mail order? Not necessarily bored kids, I get a lot of plants from a local nursery, run by very knowledgable Husband and Wife team, have bought plants which when flowered have blatantly been incorrect, they came from their supplier like that, (as did my Aldi rhodos) they told me recently they arent getting from them anymore. Yup, come on folks a packed of tomato seeds, or if you like your variety, save some of that.My daughter ordered a dress from a well know store, in plenty of time for a wedding, sent by an equally well known (and rubbish!) courier, she was watching the tracking, it didnt arrive, she posted up on facebook naming and shaming, the dress was almost in her hand in seconds. She had some shoes "delivered" by the same courier recently, they never turned up, sellers told her SHE had to complain company, lots of agro, bloke said he put the parcel (bearin in mind its tracked, eant to be signed for) behind the bush in her garden, shame she hasnt got one!!! A young boy about 8 brought it round a few days later, he doesnt live in her road!
Dobies are mail order, but this was Dobbies, one of the big chain garden centres. Possibly only in Scotland though. I'll drop them an email as it would be nice to work out what the tomatoes actually are!
Stop-it Aster2! I did say "or save the seeds from varieties you like", then you know what you are getting. I usually buy "trial" packs so less than a quid. Did you get beans though, and were they also giant? I grow Annabel this year, definitely dwarf, but BOY what a fantantisc crop!!! I have seen ad for Dobbies (and Dobies) but we dont have them in the SE
I did get beans, they were normal-sized. I didn't get many, but that's because of the poor soil on my allotment and the horrible weather early on. The variety was (supposed to be) Tendergreen. I'll try Annabel next year, it sounds good.
I was planning to save seeds from tomatoes this year, but they got wiped out by blight before they ripened. But I now know where I should buy them from - locally grown from one local nursery. Not only were they the cheapest, but by far the best quality plants.
I was v interested to find your forum discussing yellow plum shaped Gardeners delight. Two friends and myself all had this happen this year in very different parts of the UK. My seeds came from Just seeds (so no label swapping of plants involved) Another friend bought seed from Kings seeds and a third bought her tomatos as plants from the local garden centre and just thought someone had labelled them wrongly!!
The fact that Dobbies and Wyevale have also had this problem suggests it is more than just a labelling issue but a fairly major seed supplier has made a big mistake!
hope this is of interest
luckily it seems the rogue tomatoes are very tasty!

Ha, even a packet of seeds isn't always reliable - my supposedly dwarf French beans reached about 1.2 m before I had to pinch the tips out.

Such intrigue!
It would be interesting to find out, so I've emailed customer svs. at Dobbie's and informed them of the thread.
Hopefully they'll reply - and if not I'll try Wyvale
