How do you fail to notice you're missing cake??

  • ClaringtonClarington Posts: 4,949

I have scrubbed some places, vacuumed others, done the big shop, stressed about finding the right gift for someone who hates gifts, and am back laying on the bed trying to decide what to wear tonight when we all go out for a meal. I've been putting off buying new clothes for a few years now. The wardrobe is getting desperate! It's currently a toss up between jeans and the shirt or rather loud purple ball gown.

Anyone for a mug of tea?

     Ooh yes please.

I'd go purple ball gown. Make everyone else feel under-dressed

  • Evening!

    Thanks Lantana and Hazel.

I slept for nearly 12 hours last night. I think the last couple of weeks had caught up with me. I have felt so much better today though, and have been quite active. Washed the car, trip out to buy a sledgehammer, wrecking bar and new spade, removing clover from the lawn, planted up a hanging basket, pressure washed part of a concrete patio (husband finished the rest), and a bit of housework.

The new spade was needed as my husband snapped our (very good quality) one in half trying to dig around a concrete post. I suspect he might have been trying to lever the post with it actually. In preparing the area for the new summer house we have found two massive lumps of concrete with bits of wooden post in, and one concrete post with steel reinforcements. No idea why the latter was there, it wasn't on the boundary, can only possibly think there was some kind of structure there in the 50s before our house was built. It wasn't coming out easily,  it was still going several foot under the soil level. Anyway, a sledgehammer and wrecking bar broke up the concrete lumps, and enough of the concrete post for it to go under the base of the new summerhouse.

Managed a bit of problem solving with the garden tap too. In 8 years we haven't been able to connect a hose unless it was with a jubilee clip. After a bit of research I realised there was an old C.K brass connector on the thread, which was part of their now obsolete Quick link hose range. My Dad used to work for, and sell, C.K tools, so I asked him to raid his old samples and hey presto there was the correct bit! I've now got a nice secure fitting to the hose reel, which then has the modern hoselock fittings. I'm really quite pleased with myself for sorting that out!

Ball gown over the jeans Clari - go for 'eclectic'  image

I'd have missed the box with cake right away Hosta image

Did my car too Dewdrops. Well, it is August....

Did you need some plumber's tape for the hose connector? I find it very useful  image

Did a few other things too, but the damn battery on the screwdriver is hopeless, so couldn't finish a new raised bed. Loses the charge so quickly. Grrrr  image

Well done Dew.  I get to ponder about and fix plumbing problems too.

    Clari too.   Sounds exhausting.

Hosta - good man for going back.

WW - congrats on the new job.  Sounds like fun.

DD - I hope you've been enjoying your time off.

I am shattered.  A chappy came round to look at all our stuff and estimate for packing up the fragiles and moving it all.   Worked like mad for the last couple of weeks to weed and sort and chuck and organise so we could get decent estimates.  Pressure off once he'd gone and I collapsed in a comatose, headachy heap.   Had a zizz and felt worse.    Need a good sleep tonight too.

Bon appetit for anyone having dinner soon.   Cheers!

    Evening folks, morning Pat image

I'm with you Fairy, Clari should wear the ball gown over jeans and finish off with fireman's hat and doc martins!

Dew drops, congratulations on the solving of the outside tap mystery! I can imagine the relief considering my outside tap is no longer connected due to a leak or something and my landlord deems them a luxury and not standard requirements! image hense the dangling the shower hose from bathroom window during dry spells! image but needs must when the garden is thirsty!

Hosta, I ordered some cake and wine too! And a few cheeses and dips and.... Any chance if you dropping them off sweetie? image

Obelixx sounds like an exhausting time at the moment! Your head must be spinning! I hope you get a good nights sleep! image

Time to cook dinner and slob I think imageimage

Great job on the tap Dewdrops - bet it lasts a good deal longer than the hozelock bits it is connected to.image
