Hosta - sort of between the far end of the polytunnels and the top end of the veg patch where the woodchip pile is?  Or would you worry about sparks etc making holes in the polytunnels?

We have occasional bonfires but always at weekends and always when the wind is blowing away from the road and neighbours who may have open windows.   Our nearest neighbours are several hundred metres away but even so, smoke travels and the smell persists.

At the new house, one immediate neighbour is a policeman who confesses to having an occasional illegal bonfire for rubbish he can't compost or take to the dump so we are going to have to be good about our own rubbish.   The other is a farmer who raises beef cattle and has lots of weaned calves running around the farmyard and mums and calves in a paddock across the road and I don't suppose they'll like fire much.

I hope the weather holds for you on Saturday Busy.   Can you squeeze people in under cover if necessary?     We haven't had the forecast rain yet today but they reckon Belgium will be very soggy at the weekend which is OK as I have lots of sewing and sorting to do.

I have the same problem Hosta. There are always a few singed branches on one of the Beeches, when I have finished.

Dove, sparks can travel a long way and make wee holes. Also , I really don't want to see it except when I'm burning stuff up. I think right down at the pointy end of the plot is the sensible answer, but it's a long way to lug stuff there. Hey ho.

Hmm - that's what I was thinking ... but it is a long way to the far end ... at least it's downhill image

Evening - shed is finished image apart from washing the windows and getting some odd splats of paint off the glass - but that will have to wait until the paint has cured a bit. Even managed a little tidy up and sweep out.

Have enjoyed raspberries everyday for the last 10 days but I'm ready for a break from them now - so I've just potted up 3 jars of raspberry & blackcurrant jam. Will freeze the next couple of days pickings and then I'll be ready to start munching again. Tomatoes have really started getting into their stride now as well so lots of tomato salad on the menu for the next few days and I'm running out of ideas of things to do with chard (stir fry, curried, frittata, etc etc) Love picking and eatingimage

I love a good bonnie too - but also struggle to find the right site for it. Have to restrict myself to an incinerator arrangement usually and only do it when conditions are perfect.

Somebody down the road was doing some burning yesterday which was either very brave or very stupid. Everything round here is now brown and crispy and the grass is the colour of straw. Lots and lots of trees and meadows full of dry grass....image

Can't beat a good burning Hosta  image

I managed to miss chicky's news re chicklet - fabulous! A very large dollop of ice cream would be about right ...image

I agree about children. I can only just about put up with my own. I kept moving house but they kept finding me....image Seriously - I find it annoying when other people assume you'll love their chuffing precious cherubs as much as your own. Why would I do that!   image

Got out and did a little bit of digging and planting at the new bed. Putting some of my gaudy cerise dianthus in front of it, into the gravel. Ground was solid. Thought I was going to need the pickaxe...  image

I've sorted the moon pix from last night. They're not too bad  image

    Fabulous picture Fairy image

I wonder if that super-bright moon was the reason I was tossing and turning into the wee small hours last night? Often seems to coincide. Maybe I was a werewolf in a previous life image

Forgot image to say congratulations to Chicklet - and Get Well Soon to Chicklet.
