Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Gosh!

Lucky nobody was injured. Hope they don't find any other major structural problems when they start poking around. Also hope no important pieces were damaged when it happened.

The wind today won't be helping - wouldn't fancy trying to put up scaffolding and tarpaulin or plastic to keep it all weather tight.

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Afternoon all,  Lots of rain here over the last two days, the garden is loving it but I need a dry window now so that I can do some deadheading and tidying before the holiday.  Have finally fetched the cases up from the cellar and will start packing non creaseables (surely that's a word) later this afternoon.

Sorry to hear about your sore ribs  Fairy, hope you feel better soon.

No dry windows here either Yvie.  The poor dog is cross-legged waiting for it to stop as she hates getting wet.  I'm pretty sure non-creaseables is a word.  Whether it's in the dictionary or not is another matterimage.  You'll be ok for towels, shoes, underwear (unless you insist on ironing it) toiletries, etc.  I hope you have a fantastic time and enjoy the sunimage.  Don't think I've ever been to a Greek island and not enjoyed every minuteimage.

Topbird I like your packing strategy and your evening entertainmentimage.

Lesley, move west. It's been lovely, dry and sunny after early morning drizzle image

    Hope it doesn't rain later.

No real rain here either - a couple of minutes of drizzle earlier, and the wind's gusting strongly, but it's still dry ..............

I know Hosta - it's so sad - but it was bound to happen - some people are so distanced from nature and weather and tides and winds etc - they seem to think that every holiday destination is just like Center Parcs - all risk assessed and safe.

Also some people are so used to all experiences being second or even third hand - mediated via a screen of one sort or another, that they really don't understand the possible dangers of reality.

    That's so sad.

I was just about to post about rain here but it now seems trivial. Anyway, we haven't had rain for weeks, everyone getting worried about drought and there was a forest fire not far from me. Really needed rain, but not on the day of my BBQ - today. So of course it rained! The rain had woken me up in the night but cleared up in the morning and everyone was sitting outside when the heavens opened! I had put extra tables in the dining room and the veranda so we all squashed indoors and everyone seemed very cheerful.

The dead lawn has greened up already!

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Just had the neighbours round. They have lost their twelve week old bengal cat. We searched the garden but I suspect it has gone for good. Apparently it was very expensive. It's not been home for dinner for three days. The little girl was very upset. I didn't like to say it has probably been catnapped.image

A bit of rain here but not enough. The garden is still very dry.

Polka raspberries have started colouring up, just picked the first bowlful. Yumimage
