I know these maybe usual visitors to many gardens, but for the first time I have had a pair of black caps in my trees!😁
Not usual at all. You're very lucky. There are always a few overwintering birds due to their ability to use berries but they are essentially insectivores like most other warblers and are therefore migratory. Unusual to still be paired up though. Did you see the brown cap on the female?

I've only had a pair of blackcaps visit once (for a couple of weeks) about 3 or 4 years ago and at this time of the year. They were pecking at halved apples which I'd put out for the blackbirds.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
We have black caps in our little area (not sure about the winters situ). They sing their hearts out and it is an entire delight. I lie in bed in the loft and hear them singing on the roof. An 'every day miracle' in London. ☺️
Looking out at the trees at the rear on Christmas morning we counted 14 wood pigeons in the top of one tree and 12 in another all at peace, usually the nasty brutes are fighting on the ridge tiles, flapping wings and feathers flying.
Put my trail camera out last night for the first time in months. Really chuffed to see the first fox for years. We live in the sticks so we don't really get the tame ones. Sorry about the quality of this still frame.

I was given a trail camera as my Christmas present from my family this year. I am very excited to discover what visits my garden when I am not around. I have to buy some batteries and a memory card before I can set it up. I know deer call in but what leaves calling cards on my steps and patio? I think it is probably rats, I am hoping it might be hedgehogs, does a fox stop off on its rounds, just how many rats are around? I have a feeling cats might feature largely!
