I live a bit remote so birds are far more timid than in the towns and villages. Today I climbed down from my ivory tower to get some compost and the Robins came much closer to look for food. I stood back and let them have a poke around for a bit.
Gorgeous photos @CrankyYankee. Nice to have them though @wild edges - whichever one they turn out to be. I struggled recently with the little bird that appeared among the clematis near the back door, but it had to be a willow warbler. Loads of suitable habitat for them round here.
We don't often get these [collared doves] in the garden, but there's been a pair visiting over the last week, and they seem to be having a bit of a rammy in the conifer with the wood pigeons, so maybe they fancy a nest in there. They were quite happy for me to be fairly close yesterday for a pic or two Not sure this wee soul picked the right time to emerge though, as it was a tad chilly. Nice in the sun, but not so good overnight. He's still there this morning though, so he's managed the minus 9. I don't want to move him, but the duckboard at the back door isn't ideal...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I need a job where "Sorry I'm late there was a leucistic chaffinch in my garden and I needed to get a photo." is a viable excuse. But anyway there was a leucistic chaffinch in my garden and here are the photos. The weather was pretty grim so they're a bit grainy but who doesn't love a bit of rare plumage?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
This young man has been coming into the bird feeders lately.
He's been roosting in the big pines behind my mother's barn and in the morning he'll drop out of the roost and soar above her yard, glide past my windows, and land in the far end of the pasture. It's quite a thing to behold. They can't fly long distances, but they are expert gliders.

@Fairygirl 😯 I've seen lots of moths in the wee small hours, but no butterflies! You can borrow my ten collared doves, (I'm pretty sure I'm responsible for their population boom here, lol!) but I need them back - they're my clean up crew. 😁
