Funnily enough I was thinking the same about bees, seen a few but not as many as usual. The alliums are in full flower and usually they are covered, but just the odd one. I’ve got red valerian, cirsium, and honeysuckle etc in flower too as well as peas and beans etc, but not exactly humming!
A Cinnebar moth visited though...and another which I don’t know..
I think the second picture is a cinnabar moth, I love these, we get a good number of them in Guernsey especially on our Common grassy area by the beach.
It was really beautiful! Jet black with blueish white markings at the side, red legs and such a long ovipositor! 3-4 inches or so all in. My husband appeared with it trapped in a glass as he’d found it on the front door and thought it was dangerous bless him! 😀
Our water supply is from a spring. Most of the time it overflows and runs down our drive in a shallow muddy stream which is used by all sorts of wildlife. I was standing watching the swallows and martins picking up mud for their nests this morning, a couple of blackbirds and a wagtail were having a bath, a few rabbits pootling about as they do, and saw something trotting up the lane that looked like a big fat rat. Got the binoculars out - no not a rat - a water vole
There was a big dog fox around there the other morning - hopefully the two won't meet

We saw a casualty his morning . We found a dead baby bird (don’t know which ) on the lawn. Checked the cctv and it turns out the mum flew across the garden carrying it and dropped it on the lawn. It may have died beforehand. Who knows. Sad to see but at least I now know that nests are nearby .
