Thank you GD you are very kind.  I hope he comes home soon as well a great miss.

Your photos look great of the cow and horses I used to have some cows at the back of a garden and they used to come and eat the sycamore tree the farmer said it was fine for them.  Are the horses owned by you may I ask they look great.  I love horses.

I managed to catch 3 bumblebees on the Echinacea 'Summer Cocktail (PBR)’ (Coneflower). This is definitely the favourite for the bumblebees at the moment:

Plus a bumblebee on the Buddleja davidii Free Petite Blue Heaven ('Podaras 8') (PBR) (Butterfly Bush):

  • Just looking at your echinacea Lucid - I had never grown them before this year and only one of about 20 seeds grew into a full size plant with flower but I really like it and have been amazed at just how many bees have been on the flower this past week. It is Pink Parasol.imageDo you find the echinacea difficult to grow too?

That looks like a really nice colour Guernsey Donkey2. I'm actually a complete beginner with gardening so nothing has been grown from seeds yet. The Echinaceas were bought from a local garden centre but the one pictured has already gained some flowers compared to when I first planted it. I've got another of the same type, and then a (currently) smaller Echinacea purpurea - which should eventually be much taller. I'm hoping that they're not difficult to keep hold of and that they return next year.

  • Yes, that would be nice and encouraging too Lucid. I hope ours returns too. I thought they were fairly easy to grow and perhaps someone with more experience of Echinaceas will give us some pointers on what to do/not for these lovely flowers to re appear next year.

Sorry no photo, I tried!  Am being visited by a green woodpecker who hops about the lawn in the morning eating ants and our old apple tree has attracted a great spotted woodpecker.

Sat in the summerhouse with the green one only feet away but went for the camera and he was off!

    Hi there Lucid and GD,

What lovely photos and you are very talented there I have certainly learnt about flowers from you. You were telling me to clip my geraniums in my sunken rockery so I have been busy doing just that. May I say I love your bee photos and the woodpecker sounds exciting and a real imp.  I have not heard of some of the flowers you mention on here.  Great to know. Thank you all for teaching me.

  • I am envious of your woodpecker visitors Cloggie - what a wonderful moment when you set eyes on them.  I would love one or two in our garden but although there are a few woodpeckers on the island they live in an area with more trees - however perhaps one day.......

That sounds wonderful yes I love woodpeckers too.  My husband is still in hospital his kidneys are failing.  I hope to visit him soon.  Sorry my mind is on my husband right now.  The doctors are working on him.

Had to chase this young scamp into the sheugh before he got mowed. I'm not saying it's wet but he was sitting up to his neck in water in a dip in my "lawn"!
