They're also at Formby (North Merseyside) so maybe a bit nearer.

I believe the black ones are a genetic mutant [if that's the correct term] of the greys @Uff
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I believe they were almost wiped out in Formby VictorMeldrew but have made a successful come back.
I wondered if that might be the case Fairygirl.

Wow! - I'm very jealous ;)  That's a garden tick I'm never going to get!

There are definitely some in your neck of the woods @Uff:)
I saw one when returning from a hill in the Cairngorms. I caught it out the corner of my eye, swooping round in the adjacent field, and disappearing behind the hedge, but I wasn't on a suitable bit of road where I could have stopped and had a proper look - and maybe a photo, unfortunately.
You can tell when it's not just a buzzard, or similar, which are quite small. I don't think people realise just how big they are.  ;)

We had buzzards overhead this afternoon and they are one of the biggest birds around here. I remember seeing my first golden eagle soaring high above the Arrochar Alps many years ago, just magnificent.

Yes - they're very common here @steephill. We get them overhead a lot in summer. No matter how often I see them, whether here or on a hill, I still love that feeling of having them there, and hearing them.  :)
Never seen any sign of an eagle in the Arrochar hills - that's pretty unusual, but I did come across a very nicely camouflaged ptarmigan along the road on Beinn an Lochain, who was clearly 'off course'.  Not their usual neck of the woods at all.
