Always a joy to add this bird to my year-list. Not in the garden obviously but on nearby hills. I'm just peering over the top of a wall, otherwise I wouldn't have got anywhere near. It's a Ring Ouzel which visits the UK to breed.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

Nice. I've been trying to find time to pop over to a local quarry where they turn up sometimes at this time of year. How is the bird list looking? I haven't managed to crack 100 yet but I'm already doing better than my year totals for the past five years.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

That's all that matters really isn't it? It's a bit like a time-trial, you set yourself targets and it's just good fun trying to get there.
I'm on 118 so far. Coming thick & fast suddenly. In just over a week I've added Ring Ouzel, Wheatear, Redstart, Pied Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Yellowhammer, Linnet, Swallow, Sand Martin, House Martin, Little Ringed Plover & Grey Partridge.
Looking forward to going to the Welsh seaside next month

We have a small group of Ring Ouzels every year about 5 miles from here, in a famous rock climbing area. The climbers have helped protect them for several years.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

Yeah, Stanage Edge and Burbage Rocks seem to attract some of the earliest returning birds. We often go there at the end of March.
I'll be near your place soon when the Wood Warblers arrive.

The migrants have been slow to arrive here. There's a few Wheatears and the odd Swallow but that storm and the snow have put them off a bit I think. I have high hopes for next week and the Cuckoos should be back any day now.
