It was amazing, WE. I'm going back in a few weeks. There are neighbouring farmers that are picking up the theme and appreciating their woods and meadowlands. A local farmer said that Charlie Burrell has petitioned to have flight paths moved from over his land as it disturbed the birds. Apparently he was successful in his application. I'd love to know if it's a true story, lol.

Two young renegade Golden Oriols have set up camp in our oak woodland, cackling and wheeling around, having escaped the confines of their parents des res in the riverside poplars. Hope they remember to rejoin the crew for the migration.

What with their raucous calls, the Jays screeching and squabbling over the last loquats, the Western Sub-alpine warblers chucking constantly and a VERY loud cicada in the walnut tree, its pretty noisy right now in my ‘quiet’ country pad!

@Peadar Yes. The easiest way to paste a Youtube link directly into the editing window. If it's your own video, post it to Youtube / Vimeo etc first, then post the link here.
  • I have seen more Red Admiral and Peacock butterflies this year than for several years. Also saw a tiny sky blue butterfly when walking the dog. Not so many of the all black butterflies in my garden this year, cannot remember their name. Not so many damsel flies or dragon flies. Have seen several gold finches in the garden and put up a full charm of them, again when walking the dog near a clay pit. Gorgeous. Had house sparrows nesting under the eaves this year for the first time, they had two successful broods.

Just had a flock of about a dozen geese fly right past our bedroom window, calling as they went. They could’ve been greylags but I’m not sure ... I expect they were either going to scavenge in fallen grain in the stubble fields, or get the rich pickings in the tidal mud at Breydon Water ... they were heading eastwards following the Yare towards the estuary.
