    4 or 5 greys - for now @Uff  :|
It's becoming a very serious problem now. We've discussed it often on the forum recently. I had said elsewhere that there are new measures coming into force in Perthshire to help reds  [one of their main strongholds] because the number of greys is increasing too frequently, so it remains to be seen what effect it'll have. The pine marten experiment didn't work.
I've been lucky to see them on many occasions when walking, and it's very distressing that they're under such threat.

  • I've never even seen a red squirrel in the flesh!

Yes, it is distressing to know that they are under threat, and even more so when you see a red with the squirrel pox. That is truly shocking. I've seen one in my old garden and I hope never to see another.
There are pockets of reds down along the south coast up here, Gatehouse, Newton Stewart, Glenluce etc but fewer inland.

You need a wee trip up here @Crazybeelady, before they disappear for good.

This chap was my lucky charm on the way to my 100th Munro in Blair Atholl a few years back. I was lucky that he/she sat for long enough to get a quick pic

There's a private road through the estate woodland near me and I've seen a black one 4 times in almost the same spot in the past 4 months.

  • I do @Fairygirl! I have been to places where they supposedly exist but not been lucky enough to spot one. My husband isn't quite as into nature as me so I don't think he'd support a suggestion of dedicating time squirrel hunting on a trip away from home 😞
