Thanks guys. I thought I might be accused of being some sort of Luddite, re phone use.
Do they gather folk round " hey guys, come and look at these photos of a funeral I attended the other day" ?????
Stopped for a cuppa . I've been clearing the area around " the rock" and I'm getting all excited about moving it over the winter when everything has died down.
An old friend of my OH's family died earlier this year (well into her 80's so nothing traumatic or unexpected). We all knew that there would be many faces from my OH's childhood there and much reminiscing afterwards.
My sister-Iin-law (who has very low standards in many things) lives abroad and wondered if we could 'do some photos' so she could see who was there. Short shrift I'm afraid....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Call me picky, the presentation has been made by a "member of the management committee of Wimbledon"
As the person who is presenting the Ladies plate is probably already there, sipping champagne, couldn't they have slipped down for a minute to do the presentation.? Poor show . Its not as if the womens final has started yet. Grrr
Runny - I hate almost anything ostentatious / over the top etc etc - to me it's just a glorified form of showing off. Your friend's daughters sound like brats who just wanted a big show for them - nothing whatever to do with their mother.
Some people thought we were awful because we had no hymns or readings at my dad's funeral and there were very few words said at all. It was a very short 'service'. Not because we didn't care but because that's what he asked for - no religious 'stuff' (his words), no eulogy, no music.
Made it very difficult to plan as an 'event' - but his brothers and sisters insisted they wanted an 'event'. Felt guilty because we asked the vicar to see him off - but we couldn't think who else to do it and otherwise it would just have been a group of people sat in the crem. staring at a coffin! Nobody wanted to stand up and say a few words but 'everybody' wanted 'somebody' to do it. Nightmare.
Hate family stuff like weddings & funerals - always seems to disintegrate with undercurrents of tension & hostility with ancient arguments rearing their ugly heads. But maybe mine is just a totally dysfunctional family...
NDN's can be as bad (although some can become lifelong friends ). I'll join in the effigy sticking on P'Doc's behalf. Hope he's ok.

RB - re unsuitable instances - It's all 'me, me, me' these days.
I've already picked one of my funeral songs. Paul Simon's 'Some folks' lives Roll Easy'. If only for the lines # Here I am Lord, knocking at your place of business. I know I ain't got no business here....
and there's another line too that's very appropriate RB...
I'll come back and haunt my girls if they don't stick to it....might just have The Doors' #Light my Fire as well...
That's a difficult situation if a parent doesn't want anything though. We're not ostentatious either, and we had similar, fairly low key arrangements for both parents, as they wanted that. Humanist, as neither were religious and it's hypocritical to have a church funeral if you're not, and when the chap asked my sister and me which pieces of music we'd like for Dad's, we both instantly said Mozart's Clarinet Concerto by Jack Brymer. His favourite piece. My Dad's two long time friends, both professional musicians, played at Mum's. It was very difficult for them and us. They were wonderful, and held their nerve admirably.
Sticking pins sounds good - count me in...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'm joining in the effigy sticking too. Wonder if it matters that the pins have been going rusty.
Rb, what a nightmare. You just wanted to say goodbye to your friend in a dignified manner then the brats' spoiled it all. At least you have very good memories of her and what do they know!
I'm all for a simple sending off but people do expect a hymn or piece of music. OH is considering a burial as he has a lot to do with the church. He'd better make his mind up. Hope I go first.
On a brighter note Serena has just won. Time for someone else to shine now
Hello all! back from MILs, a good start has been made, Fairy, he has opted for 3 large bolts and a strip of barbed wire for now, she's certainly not the easy option for a break in now!
There is an elevated path to the back passage that is being held up with a landslide of mud, weeds and rubble. We have bagged up eight rubble sacks so far and unearthed some paving slabs that we will use to reinforce the side of the path and create some steps with a hand rail. I've dug over her 3 metre square raised bed and planted all the plants we have donated so she can see them from her French windows. She was overjoyed and rewarded us with sticky buns and tea! its an on going project and will be back each weekend. Scan read back, Runny, your funny! best wishes to pdoc, Hosta, Dove, topbird, Panda, Nut, BusyL, Lilyp, Fairy, SGL, Lesley, Clari, Dewdrops, Flowers, GWRS, Pat, Fidget, DD, Obelixx, Joyce, Liri, Chicky, Pansy and Archie and anyone else who pops in! have a lovely weekend!

OMG, runnybeak.
I think if anyone had pulled out a camera at my Dads funeral, I'd have decked them.
Aunty Flo dancing on the table at the wake after one or two brandies , stick it on youtube by all means.
