Morning all/afties Pat. Hope you can catch up with us all later image

Still no rain here either Joyce - just that thundery oppressive cover that Clari describes. It was the Borders and up the east side/Cairngorms and across to the north west so we got nothing. There were plenty of weather warnings for that side. The Lismore ferry is cancelled due to fog Liri, so I hope your holidaymakers weren't planning anything for today!

No need to rush off Mr M - you can chat anytime you want. We might even get you gardening image

Enjoy your tree talk chicky. I feel a song (Clint Eastwood?) coming on... # I talk to the trees....

    Ok perhaps not  image

I was lucky not to have an teeth sucking from the builders chicky - I like Mr C's  interpretation imageHope it goes smoothly for you Clari -  It's stressful enough even when it goes well.

Better go - catch you all later. Have a good day image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Good morning all,

Lovely sunny day and it has rained in the night so I am happy, new plants seem to have survived the night out there on their own. Phew. image

Baking a chocolate tray bake at the moment, it says it tastes better after a few days so should be perfect for Sunday, will ice it Saturday morning, as long as Charlie doesn't spot it first. image

Want to do a light fruit cake too, a Dundee or something, trying to match recipes with available ingredients, bit of juggling going on, wish we had a Sainsbury's nearby. image

My friend suggested to OH yesterday that he should either fix my greenhouse or buy me a new one, that certainly produced a lot of tooth sucking and sharp intakes of breath, as well as head shaking - based on Mr C's interpretation I take it that's a NO. image

Right, off to smile a guests - and hopefully they will get the hint and pay and go, they think it is lovely here and said they could stay all forever - nice to be appreciated but I have jobs to do and need that bed for the next lot. image

Have a good day all. image

    G'day all.

Warm and sunny again, this really is summer.

Booked tickets for RHS Chatsworth show last night. It is right on my doorstep, which is lovely.

Started taking anti Malarials at the weekend, which means holiday is very close, need to sort out extra camera batteries, and try and find a solar charger, as no electricity, in the camps.

Still got loads to do in the garden, as no one to come and look after it whilst we are gone. One of the problems of only having one neighbour, and not being on speaking terms with them.

    Have a good day.

How can you lie there and think of England

    Morning all.

What can't you get for the fruit cake DD? I can get everything I need in Leclerc, but it's not your local.

Going to weed the top middle bed then going to lunch with son and 2 small grandsons.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Hi Lizzie,

I have trouble finding currants and sultanas, then if I do they are are in tiny packets and really expensive. I am not keen on the candied peel here either. Yesterday I was looking for golden caster sugar too and couldn't work out what was the French equivalent, the one I saw (blonde) didn't seem very fine. image

They have currants, sultanas and raisons in different size packets and prices in Leclerc in Trélissac. I use that soft brown sugar called Vergoise, comes light brown and dark brown, has more flavour. I'm not keen on candied peel so I use a spoon of marmalade instead. Isn't there a large supermarket anywhere near you?

We have Intermarche, but the home baking aisle is a bit limited. Next time I go to Perigueux I will stock up. They are extending our shop so maybe in October they will have a better range. image

  • Is it possible to buy and stock up on-line?

Good morning Joyce, Hazel, Clari, Chicky, Fairy, PD, DD and BL (and those yet to come)!

The garden is improved by yesterday's downpour, though Geranium phaeum has seen it as an opportunity to flop all over its neighbours.  Maybe I need some plant supports...  image

Fairy, I expect the fog is just over the sea between Oban and Lismore, so hopefully the visitors are still gambolling in the sunshine on the island.  We were worried they'd hate the water restrictions, but they've sent glowing emails about hours spent in the sea so clearly it's ok!  I get ferry updates on my phone, useful because last year they "upgraded" the Lismore ferry to a bigger (yay!), older and slower (boo!) roll-on-roll-off vessel, before they started the necessary upgrading work on Oban pier so that said larger vessel could dock at low tide.  image  This means ferry departure times are regularly shifted by up to an hour, which is useful to know in advance.  The text updates also tell me if the service is on "amber alert" because of the weather.

The Met Office says it "may" rain in Oban at the weekend...

See you later.  Have a happy day!

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Punkdoc, what day are you going to the Chatsworth show.? Like you, it is close by, I have gone there since I was a kid, so whilst I have never gone to Chelsea because of logistical problems, this is good for all of us in the Midlands. I just worry, that so close after Chelsea, the builders of the show gardens will still be building or dismantling Chelsea while they should be building Chatsworth.

The new bridges and a marquee based on paxtons greenhouse will be interesting.
